As per my previous posts I’m after some good sensible advice please. I’m looking for a good hybrid bike to use for road work & getting fit but I would also like to go down the odd easy track canal towpath and the like.

I have seen these 3 bikes which I am interested in , which of them would you suggest has the best spec and parts etc ? (Never heard of Merida but am assured they are decent manufacturer).

I value you opinions and look forwards to your suggestions/comments

On the basic specs, the Trek...Shimano hydraulic brakes (rather than the lesser Tektro on the Giant), 9 speed triple (rather than 8 on the Merida), better tyres (Bontrager versus the poor Detonator on the Merida)

Trek is thru axle (newer standard) vs QR on the Merida (can't see the Giant). Trek has Alivio rear mech which IIRCis higher up the tree than Acera but don't quote me

Objectively the Trek, subjectively the trek as a brand for me (I enjoyed owning a. 7.3FX in the past)

However, you MUST go testride, to make sure you find the one that you like most and to get the right size

Also, base your decision on the helpfulness and agreeability (and willingness to deal) of the retailer assuming they're not all sold by the same shop locally

Can you not find one that isn't black? ;)

There’s very little in it between the three and they will all do the job for you. What you need to do now is get down to local shop or wherever you intend to buy from and look at them.
The shop In itself is another factor, choose one which you can get to easily if you have any problems and give good service, this is more important than whether one bike has a slightly better component(s) than another.
Don’t forget to budget for a good lock, helmet(if you want one) and clothes if you think you might need some.

This. Most of all, get one bought and start riding, stop agonising ^_^

@Hodgey1968 they all look very similar to me , if i was you i would be looking at the lightly used 2nd market as there are loads out there that have hardly been used .

for example i was offered a 2 yr old Marin San rafael yesterday it had been used once when first bought and then has been sat unused since for whatever reason so immaculate condition and only just over £100 was being asked , to say i was tempted was an understatement .

ok its an older spec bike ie rim brakes over disc's but still a dam good buy , keep looking local where ever that is you will be amazed the bargains are there

OP using C2W (Halfords, has presumably udebtied LBS which take the vouchers) so no used purchase (mentioned in his other v similar threads, which could be merged with this)

no mention of c2w in Opening Thread , i was basing my answer on info given as my crystal ball is in the loft
He refers to his previous posts (although doesn’t link to them)...no crystal ball needed, both mention C2W in OP

It’s annoying when posters start new threads Asking the same/similar thereby ignoring everything posted previously! I’ve requested mods to merge
