It seems to me that, the fitter you get, the more alcohol interferes with your bioryhthms. If I have more than one drink I'm likely to wake up at 3 or 4am. Has anyone else experienced this?

You may be getting fitter or it may just be an age thing. Damhikt

This was discussed on a recent to programme. Not linked to fitness, is a normal phenomenon

Thank you for the link vickster.
A few weeks ago I was feeling overtrained, since then I've not really felt like drinking and when I have it hasn't felt good. I'm not really bothered if I'm limited to one beer from now on. It's possibly age-related, I guess time will tell.

No, I don't drink while riding but if I drink more than 1 beer in the evening I find myself wide awake a few hours later.

Some people believe a drink in the evening helps them sleep.. It doesn't, dont fret, avoid it.
A lot will knock you out but that's no good either ..

Happened to an old work colleague. Had more than one drink and woke up about 1am.

Unfortunately, he was at Brighton station and he had to wait until after 6am to get the next train back home.

reminds me of one night in the early days of london night buses - they radiated from Trafalgar square. Got on one to go to north london. Fell asleep like a (pissed) baby - woke up - looked out the window - back in Trafalgar Square.

On your original point, OP, no need to study biorythms or whatever - alcohol interferes with your sleep - you may drop off/crash out quickly but you won't get into deep quality sleep and are likely to wake up.

Solution?

Drink during the day so your body can process it by bedtime.

Though that may not be approved doc advice.
