All this in spit of the fact that no evidence exists that pavement cycling has caused any injuries in Witney. Do the PCSOs have the power to issue on the spot tickets to other law breakers? Mobile phone drivers? Zig zag parkers? I doubt it somehow.

(It's also refreshing to see an article in a local newspaper about cycling where there's not a massive slew of vitriolic anti-cyclist comment postings ! The comments are very intelligent - unlike the illiterate drivel you'll find in the Edinburgh Evening News comments on any story involving cycling !)

I doubt if many on here will have a problem with it. This might become a useful thread to point people on the non-cycling forums I frequent to next time they classify all cyclists as ignoring the rules.

Fully agree.

Cycling in dense pedestrian areas is highly irresponsible.

Why do they allow it in Japan?

Another point: Since studies have shown that the more bikes on the road, the safer it actually becomes, because motorists get used to seeing and watching for them. Let's get the pavement-riders out on the tarmac, where they belong.

Then, again, if someone is going to ride on the pavement, he is probably not a very good rider, and won't bother to follow the other laws, either.

I think there should be some leeway when it comes to pavement cycling really, some places the pavements are deserted and the traffic can be murder.

but then, I do object to people cycling through the town centre, filled with shoppers. It just drags the feel of the area down.
