Did anyone see BBC 1 programme about food yesterday afternoon?
It showed milk was a far better recovery drink than these fancy sports drinks.
Also crisps are not as bad as often thought by people, containing less salt than many common foods, such as bread and weight for weight also twice as much potassium as bananas.
I do not eat many crisps but do drink lots of milk^_^

Unfortunately a lot of people are lactose intollerant http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactose_intolerance .
But I found if I have some kind of carb with milk it seems offset the effects. So eat cake or try banana/chocolate flavoured sweatened milk drinks.

I luv my milk on my cereal in the mornings with a glass of it on the side.
And a bag of plain crisps with my workday lunch to get some salt into my body.

I have to have lacto-free milk and even then not in large quantities.
Ordinary milk gives me terrible stomach cramps, and the runs, for days even after only a mouthful, or if in tea or coffee.
Rules out cream cakes and iced cream too.

Of course it showed that milk is better for recovery than sports drinks. Unless specifically designed for recovery purposes, most sports drinks contain nothing that will help with recovery at all.

It's not exactly new knowledge. Milk and milk based drinks have been recommended as recovery drinks for yonks in most of the cycling comics.

Crisps might have less salt than bread and more potassium than bananas but they are 30% w/w fat. A large packet per day for a year contains close to a gallon of oil.

The thing about crisps is that they are incredibly bad for your teeth...potato starch will linger in your mouth for hours, worse than sugar.

It does seem these days many people do not read labels otherwise they would realise they are basically buying sugared water in fancy packaging.

As a child in the 1970's all of the cup final post match interviews seemed to feature a sweaty bloke swigging from a bottle of milk. Maybe it was only once but time has a habit of editing my memories.

I posted on a similar thread a couple of years ago - I bought some 'recovery shake' mix from Boots that you made up with milk. When I looked at the label, 95% of all the good stuff it was claiming to contain actually came from the milk you stirred it into. Since then I've drunk plain milk for recovery.

Are you sure that it wasn't in the eighties when The Milk Marketing Board sponsored the League Cup?

The same people are generally those who are never near a gym, rarely exercise and if they do,never work hard/long enough to actually require some form of carb/electrolyte intake or indeed products to aid recovery.
