Looked like a great effort, excepting Jimmy Carr. I wonder if he was added in to show how difficult it actually was for everyone else?

Hats off to Eddie Izzard. You could see the determination on his face and the shear perserverence he showed was amazing (anyone fany one of those ice baths?!)

They sure did show fantastic grit and determination, I'm very impressed. They didn't half make cycling look like the WORST sport in the world though! They were complaining about how terrible and awful cycling is the whole way! I thought it looked like great fun (well apart from the minus 15)...

Patrick Kielty was particularly impressive, he seemed to be the fastest throughout the whole ride!

They all seemed to put a bit of effort in except the very unfunny Jimmy Carr who was a waste of a rider.
Well come on, he must be doing something right, he sells out his gigs on a weekly basis throughout the year, his live stand up is excellent. He didn't add much in terms of cycling, but surely it's more about his fan base being persuaded to part with their cash?

Yeh it's hard at 3am, climbing 3000ft in temperatures of -15, but when they were just tootling along at 13 mph along an A road, they didn't need to edit it to be quite that epic! Still a brilliant achievement, just think they edited it to seem a bit too extreme.

Oh and i've ridden 6 days a week so far this year with one week off, so i know it can get tough!

No they weren't. Many times they were clearly elated by it all, despite the pain.

As for editing - well, you have to show 4 days in an hour. You can't afford to waste time on pretty coasting shots. That's modern TV. People get bored and think, oh what a jolly for them, what's hard about that to desreve my money?

I don't see the problem with Jimmy Carr. He was added in as a big name, he came along, he clowned (he is a comic, after all), he did a bit on the bike. Just part of the whole deal.

As someone who hates hills and fears ice, hats off to all of them.

Well said Arch

Half the moaners and whingers on here would'nt contemplate doing what they did on a glorious summers day let alone in the conditions they had to ride in

the only things moaned and whinged about was the fact that Jimmy carr is was an irritating prick... well he is.

and Eddie Izzard's challenge was more worthy of praise... and it was.

no one said that they didn't do a good job

I think they should have had a triple, not a double/compact.
I noticed when one of them was climbing, they had it in the lowest gear, and their cadence must have been around 30rpm.

I was replying to Darkstar's comments on the tone of the programme, not the acheivement, which we've all agreed on.

I haven't seen any of Eddie Izzard's stuff, not having digital, but it sounds amazingly impressive.

Sam - bless you, you're young. On any of those big hills, assuming I hadn't died on the way up, I could have the lowest gear there was and my cadence would still be down to about that. It comes to a point where walking would be faster. I'm sure you could have made better use of a triple, but those guys had a tiny amount of preparation - learning to spin uphill takes time, no matter what gears you have....
