High prices work real well with Heroin don't they

My uncle (now deceased) would literally crawl to the off-licence to buy frosty jack's (or whatever) and I very much doubt when he got there that he would shake his head at the high price and crawl back home.

I think any policy like this clearly doesn't understand addiction.
Heroin is surprisingly inexpensive actually. Not speaking from experience I should add. It's the amount addicts need to take which make it so. This price change wont effect me and my two bottles of Old Rosie a week I don't think. Edited to add i did not see the other comments made about this until after I posted.

The brewery had a sale on some beer the other week, got a couple of cases of ale for £8 each - minimum pricing at its best!

It's simply a cynical attempt by the Treasury to obtain more revenue by increasing it's tax take. Strange they have announced it in the run up to Christmas ............ Nothing what so ever to do with people's health. The Government don't give a crap about that they just want more revenue from alcohol. Of course the smart person doesn't drink alcohol so is unaffected. Simples.

If you don't mind my saying so, you're not doing any big favours for your own theory about the correlation between smartness and teetotalism...
