I have a lot of colleagues, with whom I only occasionally have to work closely (thank god)...with one or two notable exceptions, nobody here laughs or smiles. It's really annoying, as to me, that's what makes the world go round, quite frankly.

Pensioners moan a lot.

I look forward to the latest tales of woe when I visit my eighty five year old pal Joe.

Some of his gripes extend back to the time he spent in Aden on National Service.

Like he says, he's not one to bear a grudge.....

one of the worst parts of my job is working in teams with others who dont chat, gossip or have a joke during the day but just keep their heads down and are seriously earnest all the time.

Either I'm wrong in wanting to have a laugh occasionally, or they're so stupid they are having to spend 100% of their mental capacity on their tasks - which don't require it

I reckon its the latter

Getting things off our chest keeps us sane.

I read somewhere that swearing lowers blood pressure and stress levels so I f***ing hate my f***ing job. It's s*** and the f***ing manager is a f***ing w*****. The f***ing customers are f***ing b******s that drive me up the f***ing wall. That's f***ing better!

I thought you were self employed ;)

From looking at Facebook, there seems to me to be a number of jobs which attract people who like to moan about their jobs:

Teachers "It's 9pm and I'm still marking work..."
Offshore oil workers "Time to pack bags, and sit at an airport, then 4 weeks of grind..."
Sales reps "Another day, another crap hotel room..."

Did none of them look at the job descriptions before applying?

Anyway are there other occupations which seem to attract moaners?
There's plenty on here who like a moan.

I've worked with a lot of trades in the construction industry and they are a fairly cheerful lot mostly , but glaziers are the notable exception. Maybe they cut their fingers too often.

I'd moan if I had to spend my day installing windows, too. But then, I'm in IT

Any job in IT attracts moaners, purely because users are stupid!

I found interactions with people that used the software I wrote to be invaluable. IT people can get too locked into their own worlds, their own ways of seeing and doing things. I know I did . Software development could often be an intense and solitary task at times. A different perspective was both advantageous and refreshing.

Less of that, they'll want it to actually work next!
