If they had died (which they didn't because bikes of this style are not dangerous), they set bloody fast times doing it! Bar the lack of brakes on this particular bike, I don't really understand why you are suggesting the bike is dangerous.

I'd guess that the mockery is more around style over function, a TT/Track bike is good for the intended purpose...as a casual around town ride I'm not so sure

Penny fathing racing is where the phrase "break neck speed" comes from. Going fast then going over the bars usually resulted in a broken neck.

I learned that from watching QI.
