So tomorrow looks like nationwide torrential rain and wind, who's already taken the decision to drive in ? or is anyone forced to cycle in and is dreading it?

I am still undecided at the moment, got most of the wet weather gear this week, new waterproof jacket, new overshoes and collecting new cycling shoes tonight, so im wondering whether I should give them a test run tomorrow or wait for a day when the rain/shower is expected to be lighter?, im also considering the wind factor expected tomorrow.

If you want real monsoons, come out to the far east
Actually I spent some of my early years in Singapore (so I do know what monsoons are really like) luckily Britain doesn't suffer from extremes.

oooh edit- I see you're from Singapore

My dad was based in Changi (not quite sure of the spelling) I'll never forget seeing a massive snake at the local school.

Never mind tomorrow, it's absolutely tipping it down here and has been since about 8pm last night.

Managed to set off this morning in a bit of a break in the rain (not quite as heavy), by the time I'd got 5 minutes down the road I was soaked, well the bottom half of me, the waterproof jacket did it's job. All in all it was a great ride in this morning, nice hot shower at work and the gear is drying nicely for the ride home.

Finally its beautiful weather here today, crisp and the right temp for me. Which was a good job as I had a telephone engineer in and he didn't leave until the back of 8 and I had to sprint up the steepest way to get to work on time.

Looks like this weather won't last though and we're getting the monsoon tomorrrow too. 5 minutes waiting at the bus stop getting soaked, 25 minutes on the steamed up bus and a 2 minute walk at the other end (to get soaked again) v the bike 15-20 minutes (25min if I go the long way) and then being able to remove the waterproofs put dry shoes on etc I think I'll choose the bike.

Yesterday evenings commute home was bad enough. Was soaked walking 100 yards from the office to the bike rack!! By the time I got home I was emptying the water out of my shoes. Think I will need to invest in some decent wet weather gear.

I don't think this will stop me getting on the bike though. At the end of the day, it's far better than sitting on trams and buses with the general public.

I'll be riding in what ever the weather - doesn't stop me, even the late storms early in the Spring, that even closed motorway bridges - just adds to the fun. Get you kit on a radiator, or use a desk fan - it will be dry by home time.

Stop moaning - I've got 120 miles to ride on Sunday - hope this storm blows over as that will be unpleasant !!

Only didn't commute in once this year because of the weather and regretted that as soon as I found myself on the glum, dreary, miserable bus/train combo commute.

The high winds weren't so bad after all anyway, that day.

Having said that I did get my bike out of the shed even that morning and sat on it. I only returned it to the shed when a gust of wind nearly blew me backwards.
um, but i've cycled through all of the wet days throughout this summer, but its the combination of the wind and rain that's bothering me, however, I am looking at getting rid of my car if I can get through this winter, my plan is to see how many days I needed thje car before deciding whether to get rid of it or not. My car is the 2nd car, so would be a great saving on tax, MOT, insurance if could get rid.

So in the interest of greater financial savings I may just put myself through the torrential rain and howling wind.

There's a whole generation of kids that are growing up having never witnessed a 3 month long summer. I have such fantastic memories of summers spent playing in the fields, fishing, playing football in the park etc. It's sad really

I know, but my memories are of laying on the grass on my back, not in some puddle of mud with pissing down rain

Given the history of flooding around this area (Cheltenham/Tewkesbury), and the fact that we are facing similar conditions again, I might be using the 4x4 to commute
