Got so ridiculously close, I don't really know how he didn't hit me.
Before the overtake he'd tried to come up the left of me.
Awful.
I don't think there was much wrong with my positioning.

You do seem to be in primary for no reason that I can see, doesn't excuse the closeness but it's possible he/she thought you were going to move slightly left...and started to overtake in anticipation.

He/she doubtless had a few vehicles riding his/her (blimey typing that each time is tiresome) rear and was also under some pressure to move on...maybe

You seem to continue in primary too..for a while...is there a pinch point that I can't see on my tiny phone screen

Dual carriageway where there isn't room for a safe overtake within the lane? Exactly the place where someone should take primary, don't you think?
Where I set off from is 3 lanes, I was in the left one. Shortly afterwards the left lane and middle lane merge, and if you don't take primary you get people overtaking you while the lanes are merging, which is a bit hairy.

Don't see anything there to be concerened about - typical London driving.

Not to be concerned? Really? In the dark and wet, in traffic, a much to close a pass and you say it's nothing to be concerned about?
Totally crap riding by the moped rider.

Judging where to be in that road layout is always tough, especially in the wet, and dark, and where everything is moving.

Far enough into the lane to absolutely prevent some nerk in a car trying to overtake means anyone on a powered two wheeler can get through the gap, but (as here) will be too close for comfort (and as he tried, they might even go for the undertake). Far enough over to the left that a PTW can get through safely means leaving enough room for a car driver to chance it. No easy answer, and every turn of the pedals means the situation has changed again.

Even if you are alert enough to realise there's a PTW there, and you make room for them by going slightly left, that move might be misinterpreted by a car driver as an invitation to overtake right behind the PTW, and that's not good. And you've got to be keeping your eyes front, and it's wet, etc etc. I'd place myself exactly where you did, slap bang in primary.

He was too close without a doubt.

Whatever. The moped was no more than 20cm away from me. If that doesn't concern you, well it should.

Looking at it again, I think it might have been deliberate, as there was loads more space to their right they could have used
