I would return their cheque with a letter explaining the situation, keeping monies that you are not entitled too is called theft and considered by the police as fraudulent, no matter how much it is sugar coated.
And if the only response is a further cheque sending out, how do you get round it?

Morality vs theft and fraud what a dilemma for some.
It is just a bit of good fortune for Vickster. If it was me, the money would be clear in my account by now.
If Halfords ever realise, I would just pay them back.
It's not really a huge amount either. Nothing to get all moral about.

Is that it? seriously, is that your attempt justify what we all know to be a morally bankrupt series of inane excuses, for not doing the right thing????????????????

Explain then how you get them to stop sending. Especially when you're not paying them into any account!

Oh dear, I would assume by your last two post being equally moronic, you have failed to grasp the basic fundamentals of this post (dilemma) Allow me to explain this situation and help you understand. Poster A received some monies He/She was not entitled to, Poster A then tried to justify keeping the afore mentioned monies with a series of morally redundant excuses hoping He/She would find support for His/Her actions. A few did indeed side with Poster A but a few realised this was a moral dilemma that was also linked with theft and fraud and would have no part in encouraging Poster A, I fell into the later group. This has nothing to do with stopping the cheques from being sent but has everything to do with banking monies that one is not entitled to, really you have Guru under your name can't you work this out on your own?

Read the post you quoted and you'll see I clearly said they were not being paid into any account.

Then explain how you get them to stop sending them, which was the question I asked you.

The Police wouldn't be taking any interest whatsoever in this ; it is a civil matter rather than criminal.
Bank the money @vickster , and if they realise at a later date that they have made an administrative error, then you can always say that you also made an "administrative error" by banking the cheque rather than returning it to them. At that stage it might be prudent to refund them the money; but a large incompetent outfit like Halfords are hardly likely to come chasing you.

Thank God I (very) occasionally used my C2W bike to C2W (before I sold it, having realised it lived in the shed and bought a faster bike with my own hard earned which had been taxed at source)!
