that might work... gunna be a LOT of disruption.. so effectively, swap the cycle lane and the parked cars?

What the new layout *will* stop is the extremely sudden appearance in your path of vehicles whose drivers have spotted a parking space, but not you.

And their subsequent demands that you apologise for "Scaring them" when you haul on your brakes and express your surprise at their action.

Hopefully the plans for the Curry Mile don't end up watered down because of "local concerns". Ridden through there a few times and it's a terrible stretch of road, too, and that's just a general observation of the area. How many naff takeaways does one stretch of road need? The Stretford scheme could be of interest to me, depending on the route it takes. I'd like to imagine it'll be a full-on segregation along the A56. I fear it'll be a bit of paint on the pavement and a few blue signs.

Oh, and finally, a quick tip for anyone for TfGM who might be reading this: Want a quick (and free) way to boost cycling in Manchester? Try getting bikes allowed on the Metrolink. All the infrastructure in the world won't get the people cycling who feel it's just too far to go, so let them ride part of the journey and tram the rest. Bikes on buses would be nice too, especially given some of the money given for cycling investment has been spent on "Bus Priority" schemes.

^^ This^^

Off peak trains and outside major sporting events, perhaps with the ability of the driver to restrict to 2 bikes if necessary.

They spent a fortune creating parking spaces along that road a few years ago. As others have written, the road is much narrower than shown in the picture, there isn't room for all those lanes. Anyway on Friday evenings when it's curry anarchy those handy green bits will be used for parking. Madness.
