Morrissey: Hero to Zero

Also, it ought to be obvious, but an interest in or pursuit of sex with band members does not constitute consent to any particular act.
Or with any random band member/hanger on. Especially bass player or roadies.

(Which reminds me, I turned down a backstage pass for Queen near their peak on the assumption the roadie who offered it to me would expect to sleep with me.)

You had a lucky escape Queen were overrated shoot anyway.

The image that shot into my head when I read that was of Queen at Live Aid in 1985, in front of >70,000 people in the stadium and nearly 2 billion viewers worldwide, absolutely stealing the show.

That's not to say you have to like them but "overrated shoot"? Ha ha ...

The flogging tree isn't going to be good enough for you. I'm torn between thumbs screws and the stocks.

OK, stocks it is, 'coz I like you. You'll soon learn the error of your ways and repent. I think "Tie Your Mother Down" at full volume for 24 hours will also help you reconsider.

Now, be very, very careful what you say about Pink Floyd.

I was never into the Smiths until I heard The Queen Is Dead, which s a brilliant album. Never really followed them as such, but can appreciate a lot of their stuff. Also Morrissey as solo has done some terrific stuff, amongst the dross. The first half of his autobiography is excellently written. Te second half is mostly bitching.

And I saw upthread the Madness/Finsbury Park posts ... I was there too... had a fantastic day!!!!!!!

That's the definition of a groupie: someone who wants to sleep with band members. However, not everyone who follows a band is a groupie. I was briefly part of a group that followed a band (no, you haven't heard of them). I don't think any of us were interested in the band sexually. I've also witnessed a 14 year old fending off the advances of a very successful and famous lead singer (yes, you have heard of him) she was a fan of: "get away from me, you dirty old man!"
You're right and the real fans are the life blood of struggling bands providing essential support, logistic as well as their positive energy. I am stil in touch with friends I made touring 20 years after.

The thread has now been reopened. While Morrissey is no doubt a controversial figure, please keep the discussion at least vaguely on-topic and not use it as a debating platform for wider political issues.
