The very last ride of the year this afternoon about 50 miles with a good friend of mine, this rounded off about 6000 miles this year on two bikes, 1500 miles on my S1000R and 4500 miles on my KTM 790 Adventure

Have you managed to get out on it yet. They’ve always floated my boat. Unusual but appealing.

Not yet, they've not delivered it. Its stood for 2 years in the previous owners house, so the BMW dealership are giving it a good going over. I'm not in any hurry, we'll, I am, but I'll not ride it until better weather is with us. I keep watching videos about the bike on YouTube. I think it'll be a marmite thing. I'll either hate it or love it. I hope it's the latter. I saw one in Marlow 15 years ago and stood so long looking at it my wife started to complain. Never had a BMW before, but I've wanted this one since that day.

I feel the same about the original Ducati 916. Should have bought one when they were £4000. A decent early, unmolested example is £9000 now

Sad news, it was his 'cover art' that got me in to Tom Sharpe's books

First ride today. Very different from the Japanese litre bikes I'm used to. Not at its best in town. It's OK, but get it of town on some nice A roads and it flies. Deceptively quick. Superb handling, very poised and comfy to boot. Holds a line better than any bike I've had before. Lovely burbling noise on the over run. Found getting used to the quickshifter tricky. I kept rolling off the throttle as I change gear which the quickshifter didn't like. Very smooth when I got it right though. It's a special bike and makes a ride an event. I love it. Very pleased, and not a little relieved with my purchase. On the downside, probably the worst mirrors ever fitted to a bike.
