It's not been confirmed yet but story emerging is that he was using an ipod and earphones and rode straight through a stop sign on a busy junction.
Rip Nicky.

Any source for that or are you spreading typical bike-bashing accusations? I'm reminded of the fantasist who said they saw one of the London HGV victims ride alongside it.

RIP.

A female triathlete, Julia Viellehner, also died in the same hospital yesterday. She was hit by lorry being driven too close while she was training on the bike

RIP

I do not bike bash.

Look around i saw it in The Express online. I cant be bothered to post a link because it is difficult using this phone.
That'll be the reports his family are dismissing as fake news, which even the Express reported as "rumours"?

I don't see what relevance headphones had (if true) on not seeing or obeying a stop sign.

I feel you do bike-bash.

Did the phone also make it difficult to say where you saw it?

All reports seem to lead back to http://www.express.co.uk/sport/othersport/807740/Nicky-Hayden-latest-crash-video-CCTV-updates-live which only cites the old faithful "rumours" as the source. Time will tell whether it's a daffodil journalist making shoot up or helping to spread fake news, contrary to the NUJ Code.

Maybe he couldn't hear it whoosh past(!) I don't know. I can't see why this is still considered a criticism of cyclists worth posting now that so many motorists drive around with earbuds in, behind closed windows as well! It also implies that anyone with imperfect hearing shouldn't be anywhere near a road, which is just evil.

That car looks very damaged.

I wouldn't trust anything The Express reports, apart from the date. And I'd want to double check that, in all honesty.

I looked at your link. I fail to see how me advising cyclists to take responsibility for their own safety is "bike bashing"

Most reports I've read state "he collided with a car" they don't say "a car collided with him" I know these things maybe don't mean a lot but the lack of anybody being blamed does make you wonder if there is truth I what @tommaguzzi says.

No, they always say that. You can't libel the dead, so they (BBC is especially bad at this), make the cyclist the subject of the sentence. I don't know why they do this, really, they could say "bike and car collided" or "collision between cyclist and car" etc etc

And look at the picture above: no matter who was in the wrong, it's clear that the car collided with the bike (unless it was a head on collision, which doesn't seem to be the case).
