Problem with zipping is the nobber who races to the front at 80+, stands on the brakes, and swerves hard left, whether there is a gap to the left or not, bullying their way in via blunt force, causing all the drivers in their vicinity in the left lane to brake, which then ripples behind them, occasionally giving rise to rear-enders back down the line. Nobber drives on oblivious and feeling rather pleased.
What we need is "merge in turn" signs enforced by merge in turn cameras to change behaviours.
But then I LOATHE driving on UK motorways because of the aggression on display.
