I found muc-off could remove the paint on some components so I stopped using it! It claims to be safe on all finishes but this is clearly bullshit.

Indeed. I wouldn't even give it away after it removed the paint from the engine cases of my motorbike. And yes, I followed the instructions to the letter.

I use car wash soap in warm water and a large soft brush, followed by a rinse with the watering can and then a good dry and polish.

Ditto, don't see the value in expensive solutions, halfords car shampoo is cheap and does a great job.

Poundland have their own alternative to Muc-off spray. It seems just as effective.

I use this too in the rare event i clean my bike. I tend to clean and lube the drivetrain but leave the frame looking old so its less desirable to thieves

I decided to bite the bullet and brought a bottle of muckoff from go outdoors,got it for £6.70 for a litre but have used up half a bottle cleaning my bike only to go and get it just as muddy 2 days after cleaning it.

Will be tryign some of your suggestions...thanks again
