Only once had that problem, on a bike with too little clearance for good mudguards. It's irritating that so many bikes are designed without good clearance.
It limits your choice quite a bit and even then, you might buy a bike that "will take guards" and it turns out it only takes guards made of cheesewhy dont people check if the frame/bike will take guards before buying it ......... end of problem.
Well worth it - get them perfect - put masking tape over the support/ mudguard join to stop them moving when you take them off - drill and fix and remount - much more solid and quieter and if you kick them (toe overlap etc) they don't shift about!
I had very little money to upgrade my old steely bike and my friend was selling their old bmc Ali bike for an affordable price, I couldn't say no, its even a bit big for me too! ....Mudguards were something I wasn't really thinking about at the time!why dont people check if the frame/bike will take guards before buying it ......... end of problem.
They are only average for coverage but you can fettle a long flap onto the front one to help with spray, but the official SKS ones cor £3 or make your own
