Nail was rather long and right through the unrepairable section, so it was new tyre needed

In my case the culprit was a screw and though I was annoyed with getting a bill at an inconvenient time I was also relieved, when the fitter came to repair the tyre instead he had to replace it as the sidewall of the old tyre was in bad condition and could have failed at some point.
