Must admit I am thinking about a 4 am start to my Saturday morning ride

I'll have been at work for an hour by then 😂

A hot, sunny and somewhat breezy day here chez Casa Reynard, albeit the sunshine was quite hazy early doors.

Slept well enough in spite of lady issues. Had the usual choresy morning, which included dropping off half a kilo of cherries at a friend's place, as I forgot to do that yesterday. Had a few technical hiccups this morning. I've worn a hole in the sole of my favourite pair of pink crocs (under right big toe), so had to dig out my second favourite pair from the bottom of the shoe rack and clean them prior to pressing them into service. These ones are glittery white ones with a Hello Kitty doodad on each croc. Also, my moon cup has split after six years of use, so I've had to press a new one into service. And there was a linguistic tangerine lurking in the bottom of the fruit bowl. Whoops!

A lovely luncheon of a crusty white roll filled with salami, cheddar and chutney, fruit and a :cuppa:

This afternoon's tasks involved sorting out my stewarding kit, ironing my white coat, picking strawberries, staking up my tomato plants, and topping up the coolant and wash-wipe in the car. I did try and sit a bit in the garden to read, but it was just too hot.

Now sat down with a :cuppa:

Google maps actually thought I was on Arran this morning when I was trying to plan today's ride! Err, there's a big bit of water between us!

Today was always going to be my short day. Made it to Tarbert in the early afternoon after a few scenic detours. A lot of climbing involved again. It was so hot with no noticeable wind, and I felt knackered in the heat so an afternoon wandering around Tarbert reading the tourist boards and enjoyed a couple of pints in the sun.

I was chatting to a guy with a MKII transit camper conversion. Apparently the engine is RS2000 spec. It's amazing how small it seems now if you compare it to the modern version. His gripe is that he can barely sit upright in it, never mind stand in it. Of course most modern vans are FWD so lower floor with no driveshaft and diff to package under it.

I had a small running repair to make as the cable on my front derailleur snapped. Normally I'd have a spare when touring but somehow forgot. I had limped on to Tarbert lacking any high gears as there is a bike shop listed. It doesn't seem to be open any more. Luckily it had broken right where it clamps into the FD. I bought a pair of wire cutters in a hardware shop and shortened the outer (which was too long anyway) and was able to get a bit of extra cable. Normal service now resumed. Simple engineering is the best.

The hotel I'm staying in has a Brandane suite.

Cat has been fed (Felix AGAIL with beef & poultry), and I am about to sit down to supper.

Now I know *why* I abandoned the sparkly "Hello Kitty" crocs years ago in favour of the pink ones I've been wearing - they're uncomfortable! There's a ridge that's meant to go in the gap between the toes and the sole of one's foot, and I find that it makes me curl my toes. Which my knees *really* don't appreciate. Owww.

Will go and have a look in Sports Direct on Monday, methinks.
