About to help prepare a twelve Lincolnshire sausage Toad in the Hole for the family dinner tonight.

It's been a mostly sunny and blustery day here chez Casa Reynard, with the odd spit and spot of rain.

Sleep was middling. I had a quiet day bum-parked in front of the TV and laptop, watching the BTCC meeting from Donington, and keeping an eye / ear on the F1 from Zandvoort, the Hundred cricket and Liverpool v Arsenal. I have to say, the lads were muchly unlucky to lose that.

I did contemplate going to the community orchard, but I have run out of cardboard storage trays, so a trip to Tesco is required before my next visit. So instead, I went out on Rocky the Hardtail to where I spotted a large hazel bush out on my test ride yesterday. That yielded half a carrier bag full of nuts, with more to come. The top of the bush is loaded, but I can't reach, so will have to wait for the nuts to drop of their own accord. They are ripe, and several fell off and pinged my helmet while I was picking the ones on the ground.

While I was at it, I also took Rocky out on some of the more gnarly stuff nearby, and he coped nicely. I have more confidence than with Max the MTB, on account of the latter being set up more for road use. There is an issue with the rear shifting, and annoyingly it's not consistent. But given that some bright spark cut the cable for the RD as it exits the tensioning nut, I can't really do anything about it.

That said, I scored a pair of trigger shifters on the 'bay this evening for the price of a take out coffee. So when they arrive, the offending revoshifts will be heading to the tip in the next load, and I can redo all the cabling properly. So I shan't bother wasting any more time trying to sort the gears - I'll just ride the bike as is for now.

Supper was a bitsas - one cannelloni tube, a cheese and onion roll, a dollop of baked beans and a slice of toast with avocado.

A quiet evening is planned.

I ate more red meat & drank more beer than usual last night
