Lunchtime stroll completed
Weeing like a trooper today 😀

Would this help?

I went out on a longer test ride this morning to try out my Pinarello. Did my usual route over to see my brother. I stopped at Reybridge and noticed that the wall of the bridge which has just been repaired due to a lorry knocking it over has been hit again! The bridge has a date 1745 carved into a stone lower down. The previous repair had been done really well so you wouldn't know it had been hit. Whoever hit it has shifted the stone blocks so it's going to have to be done again. Something big must have done it. An agricultural contractor with a big tractor and trailer seems a likely candidate.

And back home. A decent mug of coffee has been had, the ticket refund claim submitted and a bag of crisps snacked.

No more away days for just over a couple of weeks, so the overnight bag has been emptied but not restocked yet.

During a bout of insomnia last night, I got up, made myself a pot of tea and began thinking of the roles of moles and the habits of rabbits. It occurred to me that nearly all the molehills we see are while they're hunting for worms and bugs and, as such, they're pretty much one use only. They're pretty much freshly dug. (Though they, like rabbits build more permanent tunnels for nesting. These tunnels are sometimes covered with a mound of earth, apparently called a fortress, which is there for insulation.) Rabbit burrows and warrens are likely to have been there for a good while and the excavated soil will have dissipated and been reabsorbed into the surface.

Mole trivia: a mole used to be called a wand in Old English, and a molehill used to be called a wantitump. It's a great name, I reckon. Though not to be confused with a wanty Trump, which is a different thing entirely.

"The roles of moles and the habits of rabbits...."

Give that man a cigar!

My working day is completed

A chilly and rather raw day here chez Casa Reynard, sunny early doors, but clouding over later. Only one brief rain shower.

Slept well, but time to switch from warm weather sleeping attire to jimjams, as I wasn't quite warm enough last night. I've definitely joined the ranks of the lurgified, as I have a sore throat, a sniffly nose and my tinnitus (normally unobtrusive) is at maximum volume thanks to sinus bungage. A choresy morning nonetheless, although nothing particularly strenuous. Just all those little things that needed doing. Good news is that none of the upstairs windows were steamed up this morning, so winner, winner!

Lovely luncheon of stilton on wholemeal toast, an apple, a pear and a :cuppa:

A quiet afternoon has been had. Topped up the wood bins in the house, and turned a load of ripened tomatoes into a batch of sauce - which will find its way into tomorrow's culinary efforts.

Madam Ruby seems to have gotten over yesterday's Great Walnut Incident, and came out for a nice fuss. I'm letting her take things at her own pace.

Now sat by the fire with a :cuppa: and am watching the early evening news.
