@Reynard, as the resident Yellow Sticker candidate, a question
Have you ever cleared out an entire yellow sticker item* simply because it was on yellow sticker?
*I'm talking 53 packets of sliced ham, just to prevent anyone else buying any.
It's actually far more nuanced than that tbh. Well, from my perspective it is, anyway.
I mean I've cleaned out cupboard staples like tinned tomatoes or chickpeas, or packs of rice and the like in the green bins, as it's stuff I use regularly, and know I can get to the bottom of or has a long shelf life. Fresh stuff? No, not really. You have to be realistic. Also, I'll only take stuff if the stickered price is less than what I'd normally buy full price. There are a few exceptions, e.g. premium items like fancy cheeses, high welfare meats, the posh free range eggs and the the like - where it's worth breaking your spending rules some.
Mind you, when it used to be more of a smash-and-grab, you'd take stuff just to piss off the regulars you didn't like!
However, my late father *would* do that sort of thing. Most memorably, he once came home with 53 raspberry yoghurts. We couldn't get them all in the fridge. And yes, it was quite some time before I could bring myself to eat a yoghurt again.
Yeah, I'll admit that sometimes it really does pain me to leave stuff on the shelf, especially if it's a really good buy. But it's not a good buy if it just ends up being thrown away.
