Tea's well underway. Sunny to start with today but slowly greying over leaving us with weak sunlight. Dry enough to give England the time needed to beat New Zealand at Lords.

One of the weird effects of radio- and chemo-therapy is that my fingertips are losing their fingerprints. The thumbprint that I use to unlock my phone is still holding up ok but I may have to think of other, preferably handy, ways of opening my phone if it spreads.

I was wondering what would you do if you were caught out cycling when a massive hail storm sprang up? There were 2 last week which I knew about. The first one hit us and came out of the blue, stones just over 1/4 inch but they came down in all directions so you couldn't shelter behind anything. The second storm happened 8 miles away but this time the stones were golf balls sized! Cars and patios were damaged so not very nice if you were just wearing lycra.

That's why you needed to wear a helmet.

Yes, there's always that but the phone out, unlock with thumb, and pay routine is very easy. I use biometric identification quite a lot, finding it quick and convenient.

This one's my first attempt at a novel, though I've been messing around with the tropes for quite some time.

Anyone who writes novels has my respect.

I've dabbled with writing throughout my life but only really short stories, poetry and my cycling blog.

I don't think I'd have the mental stamina to do a novel or other long work. The likes of Agatha Christie who published so much must be seriously dedicated to the exclusion of nearly anything else.

Good morning from a bright and breezy Suffolk where it sounds like the children's annual football tournament on the local playing field is in full swing. Coffee has been had after a late start thanks to a good night's sleep.

At some point I need to go food shopping for today and to get some travel snacks for Monday's outing. The overnight bag also needs to be sorted and packed - I'll be using the slightly larger bag so that I take the waterproof jacket given the forecast for in Manchester on Monday & Tuesday. The rest of the day will be spent accompanied by the sights & sound of mororsport (F1 & BTCC) on the TV or radio.
