Bought a new iron. Need to take the old one to the tip along with some other rubbish.

Tip closed until tomorrow. Plugged in new iron. It didn't work. Plugged iron into different room. It worked. Went to check circuit breaker box. The switch for the ironing room had tripped. It's quite possible that the iron that I replaced wasn't actually broken. 🤨 Or perhaps it was broken and that is why the switch tripped.

I don't have an iron.
MrsPete has two, though.

My previous iron gave up its earthly struggle a few years ago. I was getting ready for my works Christmas party which pre-Covid was a suit and tie affair. I was about to iron my very creased white shirt. Very bad timing and it necessitated an emergency trip to Argos to buy a new one.

Since COVID, I haven't really had any reason to get dressed up so I've only used my iron two or three times in the past year.

I reckon this iron will outlive me as it gets so little use...

Many years ago my girlfriend told me that the iron was broken. I wasn't too bothered at the time but I discovered a few years later that it only needed a fuse replacing. By this time, I no longer had the girlfriend.

Excel has a new party trick today: when I click on a cell it highlights a different cell, usually (but not always) three squares above, just to make sure I don't manage to get too much work done...

I sorted that one by turning it off and on again, The programme then sulked at being thwarted by reformatting cells: I'd format a column as "money" and it would then randomly reformat the occasional cell as "date" or "Formula". It amazes me anyone gets any work done with it at all.

6 miles trudged taking dead light tubes back to Toolstation twice this afternoon. Strava weirdly has started showing steps rather than elevation gain for a walk and even odder the longer the walk the fewer steps! Not sure how it can work out steps particularly given depending on footway conditions there were a fair number of shorter steps today

Had a lovely luncheon of two slices of wholemeal toast, one with pate, one with cheddar & apricot chutney, plus an apple, a tangerine and two :cuppa:

After, took the kitchen peelings to the compost bin, emptied the ashes from the grate, and as they were cold, also wanged them in the compost bin. Strained the chicken stock, picked the remaining meat off the bones and put the meat in a tupperware in the fridge. Bones are wrapped in newspaper and will go in the fire once there's a good bed of coals. Then popped out to pick up mum's prescription.

Now sat by the fire with another :cuppa:

Still dry and mostly sunny. Very cold but not much snow visible.
A light covering on the highest mountains I can see from my window but none elsewhere. Even the mountains of Rum which I could see when out have no visible snow.
Spent most of the day in my top shed making chaos out of chaos. I have some stone cutting chisels but cannot find them. I have a couple of bricks I want to reduce in size.
Checked out and gave a booster charge to my mobility scooter which has not been out for some time. Too cold to just sit there at up to 8mph or 4mph on pavement. It is hoped it will solve some of my ferry problems as I can get on without booking to Oban for light shopping.
The trike could also serve but it would mean using a very busy tourist ridden road for a bit before getting off into a retail park.
There is a more sensible route but it involves a hundred yards of pavement.
The visit I am currently trying to get booked for needs an empty car going over and the ICE trike coming back so more of a problem.
When the local office opens on Monday she will probably be able to work some fiddle for me to get a sensible booking.
