In this town there is an Ironmonger. Do you remember those?
Use to be a great one locally down a back street, you would go in and ask for something and if was slightly obscure it could be a good 5 minutes on later the assistant reappeared having been in the attic two doors down for it. It suddenly closed, story was the owner had had enough. It sat there locked up fully stocked for a good couple of years.

Sounds as though life regarding travelling can be difficult.Must take some planning.

I forgot to mention that there is a 30 minute check in cut off for the Oban ferry so I allow at least 45 minutes or more and for the 21 mile journey to the ferry another 45 minutes so add on one and a half hours to the one hour sailing time.
I have been doing this for years and used to be off island every couple of weeks on business trips so planning is automatic.

The only Scottish Island I have visited is Sky and that was long before the bridge was opened. We were camping but stayed at Harlosh youth hostel as two friends were wardens there.

It must have been in the early sixties. No crowds of tourists Very peaceful

I would love to visit the Western islands but by all reports would take some planning

I won’t take up your kind offer but I think I have just become claustrophobic 😜😜😜

It must be about 15 years since I last cycled on Skye and even then traffic was pretty bad in parts. Sailed there but that is another stressful episode due to gale force winds and a bad anchorage.

I hate sealant, why cannot someone cope up with something that only goes sticky after a good few minutes. Anyway floor gaps filled. Beige a bit um... but white definitely would have been worse so a top quality BODGE JOB™. The sealant gun was rusting in places, so has had a couple of coats of rust converter.

Holes the plumber inadvertently made on the staircase wall (drill pushed through from the bathroom) filled and painted

Top metal cavity wall fixing of old towel radiator drilled through till it fell inside the wall and that and the other top hole which presumably went into wood filled, pretty large so a good day or two before any smooth top coat filler is applied. Same holes low down to deal with but not readily accessible due to the new towel radiator. Have ordered off eBay some big screw covers to fit over them.

I have sometimes checked their prices against other suppliers, and they are very competitive. If you wanted to, you could buy two bolts or one hinge. They also deliver large/heavy items without charge.

Admittedly they are closed on Bank Holidays and Sundays, but that, in my case, is irrelevent.

My dad had an Ironmongery shop in Lee High Road, London (next door to Young Cycles). I worked there on Saturdays.

I thought there would be a safety system in force to stop that?

Looking on the pilots discussion website, so did a lot of people. Apparently opening the door also deployed the slide, which is now missing.

There is, they lock. Faulty aircraft.

Apparently, not on all the doors.

He said he wanted to get out quickly ! At 30,000 ft it would have been quick!

I believe it was 200', but it's still been a bit of a drop.

We went down into the town this afternoon to watch the parade of Morris Dancers. It was whilst we were on the Island Park that I noticed a sign saying "Mixed Cycling"! Then I noticed the "Re " bit !

Sat out in the sun for a while wearing shorts.
After a couple of hours I had to go back to longs as my legs were getting burned.
Put out some more flower seed but I think it may be outdated and will probably not germinate. At least I have the main bit covered with netting to keep the house sparrows off but the next menace is probably snails.
They have a homing instinct as one year I donated quite a few to a neighbouring garden which was all grass but I am pretty sure the same ones were back within a couple of days:sad:
I did later check by putting a paint mark on them before chucking them as far away as possible and yes it was the same ones coming back.
My neighbour is enraged with Calmac.
He is driving his father's taxi to Edinburgh Airport next month to pick up a party of Canadians and the ferry was booked a couple of months ago. Calmac say they cannot find any booking even tho' they have a booking number under the old system.

There are two options Scan Gear, and IJ Scan.

I've been using IJ because it's much easier to make sense of, and it also seemed much more comprehensive, but just looking on Scan Gear, the options go up to 1200dpi on there, but still no 2400.

Off to get the dinner now I'll have a read of the info later.

So, if you go into Scan Gear (but not IJ Scan) you can type any dpi size into the box you want, it's just that the pull-down stops at 1200. Having uncovered that little gem I did quite a nice scan of a 10x8 Cibachrome, and found that the quality at 1200 isn't really any better than 600. Then when I tried a postcard at 1200 it complained that the file's too big. I'm now giving up trying to get to the bottom of that one, because it's got me about as confused as I ever want to be.

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
Back from this morning's road race. The riders I was there to help support rode past four times, not needing bottles / spare bike / wheels and then were blocked in the final sprint. So didn't win = no prize money / flowers / kiss from a pretty girl (not that I saw any of those around - girls that was).

I had a very quiet morning without incident.

Then they took the shortcut back to the HQ, with several riding as a group up the A1 near Grantham.

My (terrible) photo skills showing the lead group on lap 2 and son no. 2 in green in that bunch:

I'm much better at holding bottles / wheels / spare bike / etc. than taking photos

It's not necessarily the size of the image but the amount of "data" in the picture; amount of colours and their spread.
