I was out driving again today. Can you tell me if the Highway code has been rewritten recently and do I need to get a new copy?
This is a very quiet market town, and the High Street and lots of other nearby streets have signs with "20" on it in very large numbers and outlined in red.
Am I mistaken in thinking that the number refers to speed of traffic?
Is that the maximum speed, like wot I thought, or is it the minimum speed?
Furthermore, if a pedestrian is approaching a zebra crossing (no traffic lights) do they need to look both ways before stepping onto the road, or just in the direction of traffic approaching on the side of the road nearest to them?
Red circle = Maximum speed
Blue = Minimum speed
Definitely look both ways at zebra crossings.
The murk stayed in the valleys, it was a bit crazy driving flipping between needing the lights on or needing the sunglasses on

Outside my house and in a few other areas of the town it is 20mph but I think many motorists read the 2 upside down as a 5 making 50 mph the target.
No idea about pedestrian crossings as we have none here and in Oban any I use are either light controlled or on one way streets.

Rain stopped so got out and cleared more stuff out of my coal bunker. ( The front was removed a while ago to get more junk in easily.)
Sorted out some more stuff also for MESS which is the name of the charity shop where all profits are spent on local projects. Cannot remember what MESS is an acronym of but seems not very appropriate when all the stuff on sale is generally good quality.

Ended up being a lovely, sunny and mild day here chez Casa Reynard, but it was very foggy earlier, and we had a sharp frost overnight.
Didn't sleep terribly well, so feeling a bit grumpy. Mind you, the heffalumps are milling on the horizon, so that's just the way it is. Did pop into town this morning to pick up the package the postie didn't deliver yesterday - it wasn't the big one I was expecting, but a smaller one that could have just been left wedged under the lid of the letter box.
I popped into Aldi for a bit of a mooch while I was in town, as it's just across the road from the PO depot. TBH, pricewise, it's much of a muchness with Tesco. Some things are cheaper, some things are a bit more spendy, so overall, it's swings and roundabouts - and a triumph of marketing and advertising over concrete fact. I prefer to go someplace where there's much more choice.
However, I did get a half-tray of mixed weight eggs. There were no eggs in Tesco on Sunday. All set for pancake day next week.
Had pate on toast, a pear, an apple and two
for luncheon.
Then spent the afternoon in the garden doing firewood. Also made a start on giving the large mulberry a bit of a haircut. While I was cutting up and hauling logs, the parental was clipping the mulberry wood into pieces that could go into the green wheelie bin.
I plan on having a quiet evening.

Sadly we have never been able to walk straight in.Always waited.40 mins plus is an average wait.A visit has to be for something special.Just after Covid we waited one hour,but our daughter had paid as a pressie.A member of staff came out and told everyone they were very busy and waiting would be longer than normal,Mrs P replied dont worry we have waited 18 months another 30 mins wont matter.
