The CCD sensors, especially the older ones, give a result that's akin to using colour slide film. But without the inherent frustrations. I still maintain my old Canon D60, all 6.3 MP of it, produced the best photos of all of my digicams.
I like the Olympus for it's ability to shoot black and white, and interpret that through several filter choices, as well as it's ability to gives results similar to slide film. Used Olympii and Pentaxum go for low coin, and the lenses are affordable. The Pentax offers backward compatability to the K-Mount era, so any of their rather unique autofocus lenses from the old days work well.
