Mild and occasionally sunny here chez Casa Reynard, but it rained early doors and there are showers forecast for this afternoon.

Slept quite well, which was a welcome change to the last few nights. Spent the morning, part turning scribbled references into a formal list, and part in the kitchen. The crock pot is now simmering away, and there are good aromas wafting through the house.

I have to run a few errands this afternoon and scan & print a new lace pattern for the parental unit. I think she missed me not having a working scanner somewhat more than I did!

Today's Watch du Jour is a 1971 Seiko Salvia.

It is time for luncheon.

I went to Tesco to buy tea but, much like chez @Reynard , they had none of their own brand leaf tea, neither the red nor gold. The gold, however, was labelled out of stock so not officially discontinued. So Yorkshire tea it is then.

I have a question for people who know about woody things. Long story short there were some railway sleepers large timbers to stop me falling down a steep bank at the end of the garden. After about ten years the sleepers rotted and were replaced. The old ones were placed nearby in the hope they would rot away, but this is not happening and just looks a mess. I do not mind a bit of a mess, if it will be beneficial to insects etc.

I could turn them over, and my question is whether insects and/or small rodents, snakes etc, would nest underneath. If the wood has rotted, I assume any preservative treatment has "gone", but is it still toxic to insects? I asked my neighbour and he thinks it would be okay, but I am not sure. What is more toxic, leaving them to rot in situ, or taking them to the tip, where they are likely to go into an incinerator.

What does the panel think?

Not sure ! I expect they have been imported from somewhere so wouldn't know what they have been treated with . I would have thought that if it was harmful to insects then there wouldn't be much insect life near them . If they are infested with insects it would seem that they like them . If any animals that go near them grow extra eyes or limbs then I think they might be harmful .

One of our Hedgehog house is occupied ! My wife and grandson went up this morning and lifted the lid on one to discover a very large Hedgehog asleep on the hay in it.

Turned out a nice mostly sunny day so got out on the trike.
Still sorting out the controls on this Steps system and the gearing is a bit high for me. There is a smaller chainring available so must look into that.
I was verging on being too warm as well as the temp at the higher levels was 13C.

Openreach have announced road closures and disruption in the run up to Easter weekend at the main entrance to the only car park and the Dervaig road which leads to the camp site. Great timing
Motorhomes and campers in the campsite when I passed this morning and a few cyclists out as well. One camper van doing the usual creeping fearfully along towards Dervaig. I could go faster on the trike.

An ICE model and looks like Tongsheng or Bafang motor. The new [to me] one is a delta type ie one wheel in front.
This has drum brakes but mine now has discs which work but need more maintenance.
I still like the tadpole one I still have but it has no motor apart from me and some of the hills around here are killers.

Had a lovely luncheon of the last of the cheese bread, some with pate and some with Englishman's Foot cheese, plus a pear, the very last tangerine from the job lot of 9 kilos I acquired at Christmas* and the obligatory two

Then off on errands. I went by bike (risky) but dodged the showers and got everything done. Bike's easiest as parking / stopping is awkward. But amongst other things, I've finally paid for that Bay of E lot. Chap should have the readies by tomorrow.

* Out of nine kilos, only two tangerines went in the bin. One went irretrievably mouldy and the other was black inside when I peeled it.

Accept my condolences for being relegated to drinking Yorkshire Tea. It's not very nice. PG is OK if there's nothing else.

Well on its last day the outright useless North Yorkshire County Council has announced that not only had it failed in its bid for money for cycling improvements in Harrogate but the money they had previously said they had received did not exist. The biggy that is not now going to happen was the narrowing of the three lane A59 on the hill out of Knaresborough and the provision of cycle lanes in each direction replacing as a result the existing uphill one that is initially steeper than the road.

I just looked at Tesco's online offering. Neither Original nor Gold are listed there/here. They may have quietly removed them.

Just saw a line of empty pullman coaches go past the window, heading towards Ely, when I went to draw the curtains in the dining room. Missed what was on the front of the rake, but there was a nice burgundy vintage diesel loco at the back.
