An odd day; I've driven to work as I'm coughing a lot and didn't want to risk things.

So ... I brought a bike frame with me as I need my university's workshop to help remove a stuck bottom bracket (they have a big vice). All good there.

But .. I also have my Dawes Giro Zwift bike in there, which is being dismantled. I also need help removing the CeramicSpeed bottom bracket in that as the external threads are damaged. So, I unlocked it and removed the pedals, the crankset and the wheels. However, a lady was sat in her car watching me - I'm guessing also onto security.

Sadly son no. 2 was hit by a van, then it's trailer, this lunch-time, who then drove off without stopping :cursing: . The driver had apparently been revving his engine behind my son despite him going 15mph uphill. Fortunately two lorry drivers stopped to help and both have offered dashcam footage. He's battered but nothing seems to be broken, just shoulder / hip / knee scrapes. I drove to meet him and got our LBS to look at the bike - it's got a scraped DuraAce RH shifter, cracked carbon saddle and paint scrape. If we can get the driver's registration it'll be reported and claim for those, plus damaged clothing and injuries will go in. I've some sympathy for someone who stops, none for a deliberate hit-and-run. [DuraAce shifter, saddle plus a re-paint of the damaged area in it's bespoke paint is probably £1000, plus £300 for the NoPinz university jacket and 3/4 bibs, then injuries]. He doesn't want to go to hospital but I've got photographs of the injuries and may take him later / tomorrow to be checked over.

Oh *&!£$@!!!! @DCLane

Took the loppers and removed most of the small stuff off that conifer I dealt with last week. It's actually several separate stems. Two stems have been moved onto the path, so I can now cut the grass there. The other two I left dangling when I felled them, as I was more concerned that they didn't take out the window or guttering than doing a neat job. So tomorrow's job will be getting the stepladder out and finish cutting through the stems.

I now have a :cuppa: and a 2 finger kit kat.

Get him to the hospital sooner than later. You'll have a better idea of the extent of the injuries. And I really hope the van+trailer driver gets traced and held accountable. GWS son no2.

After a pretty rough night and a case of almost falling asleep working at home the 5pm dental appointment I got resulted in no use of the drill but a prescription for a course of penicillin. Also picked up a tube of Sensitive Pro pain relief toothpaste to rub on the tooth in question; hoping for a nice long visit to the land of nod tonight.

Been a good day with weather and set to continue for the rest of the week. Did some fettling and resetting some bits of the trike. The previous owner must have been a very tall bloke as the steering arms were a long way down and I could not read the display from normal sitting position. The boom was also quite far out and had to be brought in a fair bit.

Mainland roads are as bad as usual. A bus and 4x4 collision on the A82 at a narrow section at the north end of Loch Lomond. Fatalities apparently and according to one eyewitness 'not a pretty sight'. The diversion route is Helensburgh to Arrochar which is now reported as gridlock. I used to cycle this route when I lived in Helensburgh and it is narrow and winding with one very steep hill near Garelochead.
The A82 north of the Drover's Inn on Loch Lomond is not a road I would now choose to cycle on as the volume of traffic is beyond the present day road capacity. Bits of it are nearly impossible for two buses or lorries to pass and large vehicles take up the whole carriageway on corners.

Edit to put north of Tarbet to just north of Drovers Inn is the worst bit.

He's waiting for dashcam footage to arrive but has (reluctantly) agreed to go to hospital tomorrow morning, when it should be quieter. No major injuries, just bruising and skin loss.

For a tiny, skinny thing he does seem to bounce well.

And in our two underground work bike cages someone's cut big holes in the doors over the Easter break :cursing: . There's wood over the holes, which'll hold up well  but I'm guessing the cameras didn't pick up anything. I've two bike frames in there at the moment but both are not valuable and are locked. Clearly the Dawes Giro which was in the cage wasn't worth cutting the lock for.

Lovely supper of the last of the mushroom soup, then home made tandoori chicken, basmati rice, braised fennel and the remainder of last night's tomato salad. :hungry:

Hope he doesn't feel as though you're making him waste his, or their time going to A&E.
Always better safe than sorry in something like this.

Thanks - his view is that a lot depends on getting a usable registration from the dashcam videos he's been promised. And firstly that they arrive.

Then he'll let the police know, plus BC's insurers, and let those two handle it. Hopefully there will be enough from the videos to identify the vehicle and driver, since they were both coming from the other direction.
