After a pretty rough night and a case of almost falling asleep working at home the 5pm dental appointment I got resulted in no use of the drill but a prescription for a course of penicillin. Also picked up a tube of Sensitive Pro pain relief toothpaste to rub on the tooth in question; hoping for a nice long visit to the land of nod tonight.

hmmm ... here's hoping a future appointment isn't necessary

I have this mental image of @Reynard as a sort of Miss Marple/ Clint Eastwood hybrid, relentlessly piecing together all the evidence and using a combination of sleuthing and inspiration to solve the Stock Car mystery 🤔

A bit of a curates egg tour that.
The locks will be on the Caledonian Canal tho' I don't see you being near there.
Not impressed with Pitlochry myself as full of tourist tat and you will get the full fake "Scotch" treatment.
Thurso I suppose will be a base for day trips. Note John o' Groats is not the furthest north on Scottish mainland. It is Dunnet Head a few miles west of there. John o' Groats pier shop was a very good customer of ours.
The trip to Orkney is interesting. The POW camp is probably the Italian Chapel which is very impressive when you consider it is made from two Nissan huts and some otherwise rubbish. Best visited at a quiet time for reflection but not possible in your case.
Midnight start for ferry to Shetland which is more interesting IMO.
My brother lives near Scalloway so I know the area quite well. I once cycled for two hours from his house and came back in about 20 minutes without even pedalling. It can be quite windy.
I like Lerwick and if I was quite a few years younger would seriously consider a move.
Breamar and Glenshee are again tourist orientated but I suppose that is inevitable.
You are not really seeing much of Scotland but you should have an interesting trip all he same.

Don't put a dampener on it !

We will be acting like tourists so all that tat will go down well with us ! We will probably visit charity and second hand shops . No point in picking up a bike whilst we are there as we will have to carry it back on the coach .
Skara Brae and the Ring of Brodgar will be nice to see.

Oops.... Phone's about to run out o

Sorry to hear your phone left you for another person. I guess you just didn’t push their buttons.

I just ordered my "Germany Ticket"; the new railcard that's valid for all local trains and buses, trams et c, in Germany for 49€ per month. As it costs me about 80€ a month to visit family I'm happy with this.

I wanted to buy the card from Deutsche Bahn, but they only make the card available from June and if you want it from May you have to use a phone App. I don't trust such things so I went to the Freiburg Transport Authority to see if I could get a card from them. I can, but they have gone to the opposite extreme: to get a card I have to download and print a PDF, fill in the form, sign it, scan it and then post/fax/email it to the office...

Anyway, it's now done, receipt acknowledged, and I should get my card in the post in a week or two.

Grey here chez Casa Reynard, and definitely cooler than yesterday.

Sleep was so-so. Have done something to my left shoulder, so kept waking up every time I turned in bed. Hey ho. Had a kitchen morning, and there's a big pot of vegetable soup simmering away on the hob. Used up some rather tired-looking leeks and celery and some leftover chopped parsley.

Still waiting for the postal stuff from the bank so that I can sort out my card. It's getting pressing, as I'm judging at the Bedford & Bobcats next weekend, and the parking at the venue is phone-and-card based. There aren't any pay & display ticket machines. If I can't get it sorted in time, I shall have to ask a friend to pay for me and then pay them back. I hate technology sometimes.

Anyways it is time for luncheon.

had a shoulder injury February 2022, bike crash on ice. did a lot of rest, rehab & weight training & recovered during the 12 months that followed. but the lingering issue, is lying on that side, in bed. wish you well

Ring of Brodgar is indeed impressive.
There were some good charity shops in Lerwick. Books were my downfall in such places.
You don’ t mention Kirkwall but the cathedral is worth a visit if you have the chance.
Sumburgh is the place to go for birdlife but the RSPB have now got their claws into it I think. When I was last there it was completely open and from the rosdside you could almost touch the puffins and I have some good photos taken from the tarmac.

Sumburgh Head is worth a visit for the birdlife ( look both ways before crossing the airport runway.)
You can nearly touch the puffins from the tarmac roadway but the RSPB have now got their claws in that I think. This photo I took from nearly touching distance there.
