When we moved in here many years ago one of the first things I noticed was how few slugs and snails there were, the old garden was over run with them, then one day I moved something and a big fat toad scurried for cover, puzzle solved, I haven't seen the toad for many years but we still haven't got many slugs and snails in the garden. Don't forget both slugs and snails can climb, and a slug can get through a surprisingly small gap.

When I plant anything out in a tub I put a smear of grease a couple of inches wide round the outside of the tub and the slugs or snails cannot get a grip.
Nasturtium has just gone out and if i did not do that they would be gone next morning.
We have a lot of house sparrows and I saw them once going along and nipping the growing tips off a row of garden peas.

It will be in the last place you look!
Nope, that's where I looked to start with.

Another damp start but beginning to brighten up bit now.
Nothing planned but may go and look for some missing eye drops at the chemist. Always "they might be here tomorrow".

Calmac have now gone paperless for ticketing and as I have a booking but no tickets I await developments with a degree of trepidation.
Apparently I will get a new booking number and a thingy on my phone instead of a card ticket.
Michelle in our local office has prudently gone on holiday probably to avoid the flack.
Pessimist?
Me?
Perish the thought.

mmmm hard to tell without looking closely most soil based grubs go for roots not leaves. Maybe keel-hall slugs they are tiny and buggers for hiding and hitching a ride on bottom of pots and just under the soil surface.

I’ve started Lettuce andCabbage in pots . Transplanted int the beds no problem.

Oh well off to co op to buy some😩😩😩

I've used GT85 round the top of the pot in the past, I'll have to look at grease as well if I start having problems, I don't have a slug or a snail problem here though I had loads of problems in our last house, interestingly we have grasshoppers here which can do some damage.

When I grew Hostsa in pots I sprayed the pot with WD 40 That stopped the slugs climbing the pots .Only problem was I told a friend he could have both the Hosta and the pot but he would have to collect it as it was in a large heavy pot. He lifted the pot and it slipped straight out of his hands.Slippery WD 40
