I took my Brompton on the bus this morning to Maidens and rode around the Heads of Ayr, Electric Brae and into Alloway and Ayr before following NCN to Ardrossan for the ferry to Brodick.

I had toyed with the idea of visiting Culzean Castle until I saw the ticket price!

I had eaten a snack while waiting at the top of Electric Brae and was amazed at the amount of people who pull in code to the information stone thing and lean out of the window to photograph it. I am convinced people get lazier all the time.

NCN 7 was a bad choice of route today I think as it took me a ridiculous amount of time to negotiate all the many pedestrians and stray dogs and kids along the various beaches at Saltcoats, etc so I ended up running late even though I thought I had all the time in the world. I had to treat the last ten miles like a time trial and just made the boat with minutes to spare. In this heat, I was knacked and starving as I boarded but this perked me up. :hungry:

The grounds of Culzean Castle are interesting but the interior not worth bothering about IMO.

Thanks for the info. I have mapped out a decent walk from Harrogate down to Knaresborough, around the Nidd valley, across to Ripley and back via Killinghall for the full day and another meandering one for the part day to take me to Knaresborough rail station so the bus ticket may be the get out option if my legs give up (or if I over 'refresh' myself at a lunch stop). The full day route has more upwardlyness than I get on a 50k bike ride round here
Now you know why I use an ebike for shopping and commuting!

I drew the bus company's attention yesterday to the fact that web page is out of date price wise as they hiked the day ticket fare to £5.70 recently (which is shown when you click on its link) so with the £2 max fare operative its only worth buying if doing three or more journeys.

Back when I broke my collar bone the mobile app allowed a full 24 hours use regardless of when it was bought, which sadly is no longer the case - just day of purchase. I had a hospital appointment conveniently on Friday afternoons so after it I would walk down the Wetherby Road to Sainsbury's. Activate the ticket when the bus appeared and hence could use it for more shopping trips on the Saturday until late afternoon.

Another hot sunny day in prospect and according to the forecast set to continue for at least a week.

Those doing the Sportive will need plenty to drink today but there used to be feeding stations set up around the course for replenishment. Not involved now but it is probably the same.
Might have short local run on the trike but nothing else in prospect.
Touroid complain about having to queue for the ferry off island. One joined the queue in third spot at 0520 for the 0725 sailing and a short while later could not see the end of the queue.
Cue much hand wringing from the settlers as their pin money source may not come back.
My FB rant slightly to my surprise got more positive reactions than I expected so I am not alone in my opinion of the tourist industry.

Lovely blue skies here after an excellent night's sleep. Heading West later this week to help my mum, so a bit of domestic prep to do today, and a packing list to write. I do like a good list.
There's three books of them by the same authors.
