I came across one of those cycle tool-stations and decided I would use the track pump to check my tyre pressure following the puncture the other and I had only pumped it up with the small hand pump I carry.

A nice idea in theory but the pipe on the track pump was so short I had to lift my Brompton so I could put the chuck on the valve. I then discovered the leaver to lock the chuck on the valve is so long it wouldn't lock on a Brompton back wheel with Sturmey hub because there isn't enough room between the valve and the hub flange. The end was result was actually letting the tyre down again and I had to pump it back up again with my small pump  It's discrimination against those with small wheels!

I have 2 track pumps that I can't use for my Brompton because of the short distance between valve and hub because they lock with a lever. The one that locks with a twist works fine though.

I have a good mini-pump that I've had for years and usually carry regardless of what bike I'm using as it fits all valves. I used to carry it on my Brompton too, until I realised it has quite a large head that won't fit into the space between the spikes on a Brompton (or my MK I Moulton).

Had a lovely luncheon of the last bagel with the last of the lox and a dab of schmear, plus an apple, a nectarine and two :cuppa:

Then half an hour sat in the garden reading before tootling off to town. Waitrose yielded the sage plant I wanted, but no mortadella. Boo, hisssss! Bought three packs of Cetirizine Hydrochloride in Savers - £1 for a pack of 30 tabs, which is a third of the price for the same in Tesco. Wilko had the two lightbulbs I needed (one for mum's bedside light, one as a spare for the main light fittings). They FINALLY had leather glue in stock, which means I can now either a) repair the strap on my Omega Geneve or b) buy a new strap and transfer the original Omega buckle to it.

Got everything I wanted in Tesco except for eggs. But it was bloody fecking chaos in there. They're re-fitting the store, and have boarded up about a quarter of it. Which means everything is squeezed into a smaller space, and some lines have been pulled as a result. And everything has been moved around, so trying to find what you need is absolute murder because there's no logic to the temporary layout. They've also vastly reduced the opening hours, and this is going to last till September. Seems like the new manager is intent on making their mark on the place - and not in a good way. There are other ways of doing the same work but creating much less disruption.

Stopped off in Aldi on the way home and acquired a suitable quantity of eggs. Also made a note that they have blocks of cheddar in sensible sizes in store, not the miniscule ones that Tesco currently insists on stocking. Plus their pack of 10 corned beef slices is half that of the Tesco own brand. Having said that, the Tesco corned beef has gone up by £1 on the pack recently...

As a result of all that, I was home nearly an hour later than intended, and I missed a couple of ebay auctions I was planning to bid on. Neither lot sold thank goodness, so I shall see if they're re-listed, and if not, then I'll reach out to the seller and see if he'll cut a deal.

Had a fabulous supper of a tomato, mozzarella, avocado & basil salad with new potatoes on the side, and then, finally, a slice of the bakewell tart. :hungry:

Now just chilling with a :cuppa:

I can taste it from here enjoy

FYI, it's by the best bakewell I've ever had. :hungry:

Recipe is from Elizabeth Orsini's "The Book of Pies" published in 1983, which is a collection of historical and regional British recipes for pies, tarts and flans.

I used a mix of strawberry compote and strawberry jam.

There are also several pork pie recipes in there, and I can guarantee that I shall be having a crack at those.

I'm exhausted from so much shopping. There's a place near me with Aldi, Lidl, Sainsburys, M&S, Asda, and so much more. I need to compose myself and I can rarely face more than 2

Other than when I'm doing a full grocery shop, I tend to wait until I've a raft of things that need doing, as it's an eleven mile round trip into town. Yes, it's frantic, but takes up far less time than going out every time I need something.

Wilkinson's, Waitrose and Savers are all next to each other just off the market place, along with a Holland & Barrett, Iceland, Peacocks and Sports Direct. Tesco is over by the station a mile or so away, and Aldi is on the way home if I go the long way round. Sainsbury's is opposite Aldi near enough, along with the Post Office depot.
