Today was what the word 'Meh' was invented for. Flat grey skies occasionally promising sunshine but never delivering, not warm but not cold, not breezy, not calm. Just Meh

List? What heresy is this? Buying things you think you need rather than items you actually need - shocking way to behave.

Explains why we have quite so much soy sauce.

But I've become smart enough not to mention things like lists or heaven forbid using one.

erm well the list does not bear any resemblance to what she buys and what she forgets thats on the list .....

It's been a warm but overcast day here chez Casa Reynard.

Slept moderately well. Had a quiet-ish morning dealing with last night's shopping (all that's left there is to shove the fish and sausages in the freezer) and preparing a whole load of Bramleys and Lord Peckovers to make a batch of apple butter.

Lovely luncheon of seeded toast with ham & mustard, an apple and a :cuppa:

Had a nice afternoon's bimblage around the community orchard. The greengages are all gone now, but as I still have a couple of kilos left in the fridge, I'm all good there. But some of the mid-season apples are ripe, so picked a bunch of those, both dessert and cooker. I ate three apples while I was picking.

Quite a few people picking apples in there this afternoon, but some ladies of a certain age need to be reminded that is is NOT a good idea to be scrabbling about for windfalls whilst wearing floaty skirts. There's a *reason* I stick to jeans...

Also it's not a good idea to pick windfalls in there full stop, as the path to the nature reserve goes through the orchard, so there's a lot of doggy traffic. With the accompanying output. I have a rule that I will not pick fruit from below knee height.

Sat back and listened to Arsenal v Leeds, and then watched the Hundred.

Fabulous supper of a smoked basa and parsley risotto, followed by the last of the apple & blackberry crumble with custard.

I can't trust myself to go shopping without a list.

Still forgot a cake of butter yesterday. Fortunately there's just enough left in the fridge for another crumble.

We seem to be on page 130,000 of mundanity.

Small patio completed. Turned out not too bad at all, especially considering it's about 30 years since I last laid paving stones.

I removed the bottom bracket from the Raleigh Pioneer. As lick would have it, the new bottom bracket that's been lying in the bottom of bike bits cupboard for so long that I can't remember what i bought it for is a perfect match :becool:

While I was at it, I serviced the hub in the back wheel with new balls as it was overdue. The single speed freewheel had a crazy amount of play in it and was very noisy (I knew this anyway but didn't realise just how bad until I had the wheel off). It's only a cheap one, but I took it apart for a clean and a regrease and removed some shims so it adjusted up nicely with barely perceptible play. It now runs lovely and quiet :becool: No pawl springs were harmed or pinged over shoulders during this endeavour!

If I ever buy one of those cheap Chinese freewheels again, I'll grease it before using it as they obviously didn't bother at the factory.

One other thing to do in the morning while I'm at it is to make a new bracket for mounting the rack to the seat stay bridge. This is something I'd been meaning to do for a long time as the one that came with the rack stops me from adjusting the cantilever brakes the way I'd like as it would interfere with the straddle wire.

I've given up trying to get my TomTom updated and popped into Ipswich this afternoon to pick up a new Garmin sat nav for occasional use in the car. The first test may be in mid September when I'm away for a race meeting at Silverstone and have a hotel booked somewhere in Milton Keynes that I've never been to. It was also an opportunity to give the ebike a decent run out rather than its normal loops into Felixstowe & back.

Hot chocolate has been had and next up is something cold and alcoholic.
