Another compromise has been arrived at.

We will go cycling today.
But it will involve a picnic and the objective is a flower festival
My hope is that there is a pub opposite the church.

No pub, the church was at the bottom of an awful descent. The exit ascent made my silly watch get very, very excited.
The flowers were dire.

To crown it all some old bat nearly took me out. I felt the mirror brush my arse!
I got the " you were in my way" response.

Managed our return via an up and coming hostelry. And a funny beer from Theakston. But at £5.50 a pint I won't be drinking there again for a while.

It's been a warm and sunny day here chez Casa Reynard.

Slept well once I dropped off. Treated myself to a bit of a lie in. This morning's main task was sorting out my apple store. Everything is now stashed away. Have the last of the greengages and a few damaged Jolly Miller apples, which I will turn into jam tomorrow.

Lovely luncheon of avocado on toast, fruit and a :cuppa:

Afternoon's first task was to see if I could do the alteration to the garage door with the tools that I have. The answer is no. I only have a round hand file, which would be fine for small adjustments, but there's about 5mm of concrete and metal that I have to grind away, so that would take me forever. However, I need to do a tip run, and Screwfix is next to the tip, so I shall see about getting a grinding bit that will work with a drill.

After, I went foraging for hazelnuts. I visit this spot every year, and usually I will get a whole pannier bag of nuts, but this year there was almost diddly squat. The bushes looked very distressed, and the hedgerow was flailed last year too, which didn't help - hazel bears its nuts on the previous year's new growth.

While I was nearby, I dropped into the Co-op to see what they had on sticker. Some good buys there - four tubs of ricotta at 30p each, two tubs of marscapone at £1.40 each, plus a baguette, a crusty farmhouse, cheese & onion rolls and yum yums from their bakery (the bread in there is very nice btw), and a job lot of cat treat sticks at 50p for a sheet of six.

Omelette Arnold Bennett and a nice chunk of baguette for supper.

Now watching the Edinburgh Military Tattoo highlights. I do like a good military band...

Crisp sandwich?

No fresh bread only a sliced loaf in the freezer, so just a bag of ready salted.

First working day of the week completed, now in the peace and quiet of my own home instead of being in bedlam the office.

The ironic thing is that I do an approximately four mile walk before work when I work from home so I don't gain anything from not commuting!

I went for my usual twenty mile loop this evening. It's unbelievable how much of a difference servicing my freewheel made to the bike. So quiet and smooth. I would always have had the opinion that the freewheel bearings don't matter too much as they're never under load as such and don't turn when you are actually pedalling. I've revised that opinion...

My back is acting up a bit tonight and I've put on some Deep Heat.
