We have proper rain, misty grey all round, and no wind at all. After an extended period of very reasonable alcohol consumption I went a little further last night so I've given myself a rather foggy head this morning.

Good morning from a 1st floor hotel room in York where the view is of the courtyard of The Windmill pub. The customary break following a large cooked breakfast is being had. At least it's dry and warmish so I can have a walk around rather than take shelter in the rail museum for a couple of hours.

Later on I'll be moving over to Leeds in readiness for Sharon van Etten at the O2 Academy.
A stop will be had in Knaresborough for a pint at the Track & Sleeper bar at the station as a 'Thank You' to the place that put me on the route to full retirement a bit over two years ago. I'd had a short break in Harrogate and walked to Knaresborough station with plenty of time for a drink before my train home. It was sitting there in the sunshine that I really started to wonder why I was bothering with work when I could be doing that sort of thing more often. Three months later I handed in my retirement request!

Well there's tonight in Leeds, Sunday in York, then two more visits to Leeds and three to Sheffield before the end of the year.

Best laid plans and all that...got off the train at Knaresborough, crossed over to the bar on platform one only to find out it doesn't open until 2pm and I'm on the five past train out. Started to go for a walk by the river and it started raining - typical.

At least I had a good stroll up the river and back and around the city before I left York, about 5 miles in total.
