Only in a commercial setting and if it is culturally protected food. As a private citizen, I'm covered by the Fremdgerichtprivatbesitzausnahmegenehmigungsgesetz.

Relieved to hear it.

Wouldn't want the Stadtsberufubersichtampt to get involved.

My brushes with the Stadtsmelderampt were fraught.
Eventually I had to produce my birth certificate, my qualifications, even my graduation certificate. But there was nothing to say I was qualified as a technical sales manager. Much sucking of teeth.
And no identity card! That was a real problem in 1984.

Eventually it needed a letter from the mayor of my then home town in England. Fortunately I knew her and she thought this was very funny. A packet of Lebkuchen sealed the deal.
That and stamps from the drawer at the town hall.

As ever the company then decided I should be based in Belgium. Had I known, then my grandfather's parents were Belgian everything would have been so different.

Halfway through the working week. It was a nice day today, a huge change from the washout of yesterday.

Huge excitement as I collected my new glasses. No change in prescription, but the old ones were badly scratched so I can see clearly now! The old frames were worn and knackered too, so hopefully I'll be able to cycle without my glasses sliding down my nose and giving me a sore neck from trying to look through them!

I was going to submit the receipt to my health insurance company for payment but when I looked, I was just given a cash receipt with no details of what it was for, so I better go back and ask for something more detailed.

I've been to my dance class. Soon be time for bed.

That wasn't a bad way of filling in the gap between Tuesday & Thursday. Impressed by how much the headline act have improved since I saw them as a support some years ago. Didn't think much of the venue though as they ran out of all drinks other than overpriced weak lager mid evening.

Still ridiculously warm - I was walking back from the venue at about 10pm in a thin long sleeved top and a lightweight fleece jacket that I didn't need - is it really mid Novemberish?

Things had changed by the early 2000's, and it was more streamlined. By the time I was applying for my permanent visa, we were able to get a letter from the local pastor saying we were integrated and part of the cultural life of the village, which was considered very important. Not having an ID card wasn't an issue: I had to keep my UK passport up to date, though.

By the time I applied for citizenship for me and 3 of my kids in 2017 (A lot of British citizens did this, I wonder why?) the most complex issue was getting an international copy of my British certificate, which was a right royal faff. It cost more than all the German paperwork combined and took several weeks.

When I moved to Rottenburg there was a bit of a wrinkle because officially this is my "second" flat, as the family live in Stuttgart. Tax is collected locally and Rottenburg has an extra tax on holiday homes; I had to present evidence that I work here and couldn't just commute from Stuttgart every day...
