There is a new visitor to my back garden.

An enormous pheasant, I think. It must take a huge effort to get off the ground, or is it lots of feathers that make it look so big?

Just looked at the Wildlife Trust website, yes it is a male pheasant, with beautiful bronze plumage.

They're not the best of fliers, being largely ground-dwelling birds - they prefer to run if possible. When they do get into the air, it's with a lot of flappage and a lot of noise.

Oh well, the dry spell was good while it lasted as it's again.
At least it meant that I could move the four bikes out of the shed and leave them outside whilst I gave the really mucky one from Wednesday's ride a deep clean as it's kept in another shed. Once that was done there of the others were shuttled in & out of the shed and given a good clean and lube.

Tea has been eaten and I'm sat with a coffee before sorting out and packing the overnight bag.

It was nice this morning on my perambulation but then the torrential rain set in. I didn't bother going for the bike ride, partly because of the rain and also because a piece of road I use to access nearly all my routes is closed for resurfacing and the alternative is very busy.

They made a complete dogs dinner of doing that road with chipseal a few months ago and left it worse than it was before they started. Then it deteriorated over the winter. It would have made more sense to do it properly in the first place, but council types are smarter than I.

I did venture out for a walk to the shops as I need some presentable clothes, so I dripped water all over the floor of Next!

I saw a MK I Fiat Punto, first in a long time. A rare survivor indeed.

No going to the theatre tonight.

I think Kizzy would realise that she should avoid conflict with the pheasant. Bob is larger and much more determined to guard his territory. The pheasant could get on to the top of the fence (about five feet high).

I have been looking at videos on tubeyou, and it looks like they make a big jump then fly. So he will soon be out of Bob's reach on take off.

Some folks actually like being out in the rain. The Ronettes and Scott Walker each made their own versions of 'Walking In The Rain." That sounds appealing to me, but I do like being under an umbrella in the rain when walking. I have also gone out riding in the rain, wearing only a pair of shorts. The last time I did it, a couple of months ago, I pulled what I thought were swim trunks out of the drawer and went riding. I noticed, while riding, that the fly didn't have a zipper or buttons. They were tartan boxer shorts.

Then last year, while on a rain ride, I rode through a very deep puddle about a foot deep on a flooded road. A couple of weeks later, while servicing the chain, I noticed water dripping out of the BB shell. I tipped the bike up and it came pouring out. So that made a BB removal necessary. (That's not rust around the shell.)

OK, I’m officially fed up now. We crossed the channel rocked by Storm Joseph. We drove down through France and Spain battered by Storm Kristin and arrived in the Algarve just before Storm Leonardo. Today Storm Marta is arrived. Had to drive through a heavy hailstorm to take friend back to the airport.

Good weather arrives on Thursday. We’ll be heading home Wednesday 😡

Sounds like my life. Just I don't get that much excitement.

A female pheasant once made a big hole in the front bumper of our 1st car. It was taking to off from the field next to the road, unlucky it did not clear the front of the car. Its female friend had just managed it a few seconds before.

last time I had my BB replaced in my MTB the tech said: " stay out of the water" well, um, ok, kill my fun why don't you

My BB developed a squeak (before the ride through the flood) so I removed the dust seals and stuffed grease into the bearings. I wasn't sure about it being good, though, so I bought another one and put the old one into the parts box. The new one was in when I rode through the flood. After seeing water dripping out of the shell, I removed the BB because I figured it must be full of water. I put the previous one in, which I had greased and it's good, and still working well. Then I found out it's possible to take BBs apart, so I took the water-logged one apart, blew it out with compressed air, stuffed the bearings with grease and put it in the parts box. It's all good. I may never need it but it's better to have it and not need it... etc.
