It works! A bit jerky but I managed to get to run on a short section of track.
I cleaned the wire with some lemon juice and scraping with a screwdriver.

can not believe the complete & utter stupidity of some ppl

The word "utter" in "utter stupidity" (meaning absolute or total) derives from the Old English word ūt (out).

Here is the breakdown of its origin:
  • Original Meaning: It comes from the Old English adjective ūtera or ūterra, which meant "outer, exterior, or external".
  • Evolution: By the early 15th century, the term "utter" was used to mean "to the furthest or utmost point" (e.g., "utter darkness," meaning the most extreme outer limit of darkness).

  • Modern Usage: This evolved into its current usage as an intensifier meaning "absolute" or "complete".
Fun Fact:
The adjective utter (meaning "complete") is a cousin to the verb utter (meaning "to speak"). Both originate from the same idea of out (putting words out or putting goods out for sale).

A very relaxed day has been had - if you exclude the 2 1/4 hours of bike riding that is. Nice little run out to Stowmarket in the sunshine and a bit more of a side wind than expected, then another couple of hours sat with cold beers and a bit of reading before catching the train home.

Other than sorting out the downloads of the books onto the older Kindles, I've done nothing at all this evening and plan on keeping it that way apart from making the evening's hot chocolate in about an hour's time.

It's been a pleasant albeit half-heartedly sunny day here chez Casa Reynard.

Sleep was middling at best, though six and a half hours across two goes isn't to be sniffed at. Took a :cuppa: back upstairs and edited all the writing I did yesterday. Then at a more godly hour, jimjams were swapped for work clothes and the chores were cleared.

Then I took some time to fettle the smaller of my two strimmers - chosen because the mice have done unspeakable things to the shoulder & chest harness for the bigger one over the winter, and it needs to be scrubbed clean. I can just about handle the smaller one without the harness. Anyways, I hadn't used it in a few years, so serviced it and then tried to get it started. No luck.

A search in the "user manuals" drawer turned up a blank, so found one online. Yay for user manuals! Turns out what I thought was the choke was the throttle control, and I'd totally missed the fact that the choke is a dial on the back of the motor housing. :banghead:

Anyway, once I got myself properly educated again, the thing then started first time!

So it was on with the protective gear, and I made a start on taming the grass around the house. Of course it's slower and not as neat as with a mower, but the advantage is that I can go around the patches of forget-me-nots, and so don't have to weed them out by hand. By the time I finished, I was a rather bright shade of green.

A lovely luncheon of a roll with tuna & sweetcorn, the last four cherry tomatoes, yoghurt with blueberries and a pot of tea.

I had intended doing some admin this afternoon, but whilst looking for some stuff I needed, I found some of my things that had ended up amongst the parental's belongings, and as a result, disappeared down a numismatic rabbit hole. And thus *poof* the afternoon was gone!

Supper was home made Cornish pasty (I made a big one, so there's enough for three portions), mashed potatoes and red cabbage braised with apple & orange. :hungry:

A quiet evening is planned. My arms ache like crazy, but it'll tone up my bingo wings!

Here is my blue Pullman that I bought on Sunday. I have given it a bit of a clean but you can still see some of the orange rust.

Look at the dirt on those wheels!
Is the motor mounted vertically by any chance.

Consider dropping some oil onto the felt pads. They dry up and have been known to stop the shafts running in them. Acting almost as a glue. That worm gear is nice and shiny though.
