I was watching "Green Signals" this afternoon. The quiz question was "which mainline train journey involves travelling on the "up" line, then the "down" line, and then repeat this, without reversing. on a journey of less than ten miles?".

I immediately thought of Georgemas Junction to Wick and then back to Georgemas Junction, then to Thurso, and repeat. How can I find a timetable on line? If it is single track, does it count as up and down rather than changing track?

Yes, I have done that journey. ^_^

Without reversing rules Wick. Must be some route where a train changes from up to London (usually) line to down from (London etc) line as a result probably of line closures.

I've been on a Train from Derby to Leicester that when it set off I was facing forwards and by the time it reached Leicester I was facing backwards in the same seat (Midland Mainline Sheffield to St Pancras that was parked in Derby overnight for cleaning, refuelling and restocking)
It achieved this feat by travelling towards Nottingham then stopping and travelling towards Leicester on the triangle of mainlines, leaving Derby at @4:45 AM to be the first express out of London at 6:00 AM, there were only 3 passengers and the Train was spotless. The other unique feature of this Train was it being the last intercity 125 with a smoking compartment. :becool:

The last time I decorated I bought some trade paint in white, it was rubbish. Two coats and you could still see under it, never again.

A couple of years ago we used a decorator who insisted on using trade paint to do the hallway. It's been awful; marks far too easily and needs several coats to cover any marks. We only used them because I had too much on.

A day spent completely indoors thanks to the rain - I didn't even pop outside to drop a milk bottle into the recycling bin. I couldn't even do any bike fettling as there's only room in the shed for me and one bike on a workstand, so the other three stored in there would have had to put outside in the rain. Still at least the house is clean enough for another week.

Hyperpole for Le Mans is being watched and the ticket for Saturday at Silverstone has been purchased. Hot chocolate soon.

@Jenkibs - you need either a bigger bike shed / workshop or fettling space inside the house :okay:

Please note that any 'advice' I give may come with associated domestic disturbance.

I sometimes store the bikes in the kitchen if I'm fettling in inclement weather (nobody to argue with if I do this thankfully), but not today when the floor had just been steam mopped. And definitely NOT in the living room with the lighter coloured carpet fitted a coupe of years ago - that wasn't a problem with the previous darker coloured one.

It's been a chilly, soggy and squelchy day here chez Casa Reynard.

Slept well enough. Downstairs, fed the cat, made a :cuppa: and took it upstairs to do a bit of writing. Not as much as usual, as I popped round to my friend Linda's this morning as it was her birthday. She was chuffed with her card and pressie. We set the world to rights over a nice :cuppa:

I've now contacted two plumbers, with no reply as yet from either. I still have a couple of options left before I try and chase one up in a more, ah, persuasive way. You'd think people would have the courtesy to reply, even if they can't fit you in. At least you then know where you stand. Hey ho.

Lovely luncheon of toast with luncheon meat and manchego cheese, a flapjack and a :cuppa:

Spent the afternoon writing and watching TV. Just no inclination to do anything that involved going outside. I've had the fire going all afternoon and into the evening, as it's been hovering around 12C here today and it's too chilly to not have any heating. I've also given in and dug out some thermal socks and a thermal t-shirt.

Curry on toast tonight, with mint raita and a salad. Choice was down to the bread and rocket leaves starting to look a bit distressed.

Now watching Mexico v South Africa.

Picked up the free Panini sticker album in the co-op the other day on the assumption they had the usual fill-in-the-results wallchart in there. Nada. Nichts. Nic. Diddly squat. Seems ridiculous given it's such a weighty tome.

it's really disappointing. So is the quality of the album - most of the player info is now on the sticker. I used to do the albums back in the day (82, 86, 90, 94) and buy the stickers with my pocket money, but looks like you'd have to spend a couple of grand to complete the set this time. Madness.

I've downloaded the BBC wallchart instead, and the sticker album will be heading to the recycling. It's that bad.

Well i did treat me and George,he took my cycle clothing order in whilst i was away.So it was a bar of dark chocolate and a pint of stout, both of which are my favourites.sadly george did not touch his, mine had not been in the fridge long enough, the stout was not to my liking and the choc was a little warm in george's very hot house,so it fell a bit flat, but it was the thought that counted.
