[Flick of the Elbow]

Another thundery downpour eased shortly before 9 allowing me to head down to the gym without getting too wet. On my return I cleaned our his and her Shands before sitting down for lunch. It hasn’t rained since I’ve been back but its very muggy and I can hear thunder as I speak so it can’t be far away.

I very nearly made a major error at work but, given no-one found out, did it ever happen?

All corrected now, so no-one's the wiser

A small bowl of porridge and out of the house by 07:45 - it was in the low 20s°C even then and 30°C was showing on the Garmin by 09:00!

43 miles to Bury St Edmunds including a 10 minute desperately needed shade break and then into the wonderfully cooled Corn Exchange for two hours where a cooked breakfast, cold fizzy drink, two coffees and a pint of Big Sea were had.. Opening the door on the way out was like opening an oven door and a major shock.

At least the trains home were air conditioned even if full of people (mostly seemingly headed to the coast) and slightly delayed due to problems on the mainline.

A cold shower has been had and the rest of the afternoon will be spent moving as little as possible as it's still exceptionally hot & sticky.

Sounded like wheelie bins being moved at 7. Hung on it's a Friday.. after the third such noise I realised it was thunder. Took half an hour for the rain to arrive. By 10 it had stopped so to the office for the 11am meeting. Parked the car under some trees and consequently still got rained on until I had cleared their canopies.
The office was horribly warm so left shortly after midday.

Sat in the garden, and look up towards our eves, and can see a steady stream of wasps - it's going into the neighbour's bathroom extractor fan outlet....

It's happened once before she moved in TBH. I'm not going round tonight and ruin her evening worrying, so will catch her when her partner pops round this weekend. She has a primary age child. She's like us, she doesn't use the extractor, and just opens the window next to it.

Normally you'd leave it, but it's right in the bathroom cavity with easy access to the house (assuming entrance is on the outside wall) so treatment probably needs an expert, and not my usual approach.

I leave them, unless they are a potential issue like this. My approach is a few glasses of wine, wait till dark, out with 'wasp nest destroying foam', spray, run fast (slightly tricky when you may be up ladders).

No cooling easterly off the North Sea today then. It's been much cooler in East Anglia but now the wind's changed there's a sudden introduction into heatwave conditions.

Outside temperature in South Manchester is now good, been horrible all day. MrsF and daughter just back from two days getting toasted at Alton Towers - they look like 'The Wicker Man' - both shattered and a bit heat exposed.
