Ironing board has adopted the self collapse mode. Fiddled with it but only limited success to one of partial collapses. Might order a Brabantia one on the basis you get what you pay for might just be the case with these.

My Brabantia ironing board is about forty years old and still going strong. The cover has been changed a couple of times.

It was a longer than average one. The iron holder moves give more space, making it better for ironing dressmaking items. Forty years ago, bed sheets needed ironing, but who does that now?

I can remember a friend ordering a carpet, he measured it in metres and ordered it in yards. It came up a bit short by about 2 feet!

I'd professional carpet fitters, "who knew exactly what they were doing", do something similar. Worked to a yard is the same as a metre measurement wise(3 feet), only to find out they're not the same. Asked if I'd be happy with an extra strip to make up for their faulty measuring, and not pleased when I said I wasn't. If I was I'd have done it myself, and there'd have been no gap.
Use either one set of measurements or the other and stick with it, it's easy enough.

Without getting political, I think that instead fiddling around with the VAT rate on electricity, why not remove the Standing Charge for those using "smaller" than average amounts?

The evening's hot chocolate has just been had.

Went out this afternoon for a bike ride in the sunshine and a bit of a breeze and ended up having to fix the same puncture twice thanks to an old self adhesive patch which wasn't adhesive. More annoyingly for a tightwad, it looks like I'm going to have to junk a new tyre with 75 miles on it due to a piece of flint slicing through the carcase.

One decision to be made - the rail line between Peterborough & Ely is closed for a return leg from Nottingham I'm making in October which adds 2 hours onto the journey. Do I go with the Greater Anglia option which is Peterborough to Ely with a stop at March, or do I go the EMR option which is a direct coach from Peterborough to Norwich?
The GA option involves a lot of waiting at Peterborough and the local roads are liable to induce sea sickness based on previous experience, while the EMR option is half an hour longer on the coach but hopefully on smoother main roads and I get home at the same time no matter which one I take.
