Rain gave way to a sunny evening and an Aldi Tesco trek
I was expecting the refurb of the former would be new fridges but wasn't expecting to find a whole centre isle to have been removed. Now just one twin sided one instead of two and a consequential hunt fot items as only otherthan the fridges and freezers were the fruit and veg, household and bathing etc sections were unchanged.

Just eaten a bowl of fresh plums.

Again.

Talk about a glut. So much fruit from one tree. Bags and bags have been given away to all and sundry. Even, I say even, to a member of Cyclechat
I hope you and your family enjoyed them @DCLane.
The guys digging up the road for gas pipes took a lot, friends, family, the local shopkeeper.
I love them but its getting a bit strained now.

You'll have to change your name to Little Jack Horner.

It's been four seasons in one day here chez Casa Reynard. With a very, very soggy finish.

Sleep was middling at best thanks to a very odd dream (logical at the time, you all know the drill) and lady issues. Not feeling that great, so have had a largely quiet day. Downstairs, fed the cat, re-filled her water dispenser, made myself a :cuppa: and took it upstairs to do some writing. Had a moment of insight with the novel last night. Made a note of it, and have been putting that into action. It's made a world of difference to the chapter I'm working on, and has helped untangle the tangle. Go me!

Did the chores at a better hour, but tomato picking was scuppered due to a deluge.

Had a lovely luncheon of a hot dog with onions, ketchup and mustard, a packet of crisps and a small pot of tea.

Luncheon used up the last of the posh "hot honey" sub rolls I bought on YS in Tesco. I will not be buying those again. They tasted OK, but the texture was oddly claggy, which meant they weren't pleasant to eat.

Had a quiet afternoon listening to the cricket and writing. Also caught up on a couple of things on i-player. I did manage to find a dry interval, so tomatoes were picked. But when I went to the utility room for potatoes, the heavens opened and soaked me to the skin in the short dash between the garage and the house.

Decided to have a nice girly pamper session and wash my hair before putting dry clothes on. My original supper plan hit a snag when the fish I'd taken out of the freezer hadn't finished defrosting. So I'll cook that tomorrow.

Instead, supper was pasta with tomatoes, basil and ricotta.

A quiet remainder of the evening is planned.

The plums are, after a slow start, coming along really nicely this year. I regularly scrump some when I'm walking the dog(s)

If you've got excess plums, a good way of using them up is to make Powidła - a Polish plum spread. You need a fair bit of plums to get a decent quantity, as you drive off the moisture to help thicken it.

Really simple to make, but requires a bit of time. And watching the pot, stirring regularly to prevent catching.

Wash, halve and stone as many plums as you want to use. Weigh. Then weigh out half the amount of sugar and set aside.

Cook the plums till very soft (you might need to add a splash of water at the beginning), then add the sugar, stir till dissolved, and then cook on a very low heat until very thick and gloppy.

This last stage takes a fair few hours - the beauty of it is, unlike jam, you can turn it off, pop a lid on, and leave it until you've time to have another session. When you can leave a clear channel at the bottom of the pot with a wooden spoon, ladle into clean jars and seal while hot.

This is lovely on hot buttered toast.

Would honey work rather than sugar ?

What do you reckon?
