Good morning from a 6th floor hotel room in sunny Leeds. Today's view is mostly blocks of flats and the corner of the Holiday Inn which I will be using later in the year.

A very slow start to the day as I rolled over and went back to sleep a couple of times. Coffee has been had but no breakfast yet - I've still to decide whether to have something in town or just get a sandwich to have on the train home. Let's see how I feel after a slow paced stroll along the canal.

I came across a very old compendium of jokes, tricks, etc, when I was a lad. That was when I first saw that and given the age of the book, it means that particular ''Chinese whisper'' has been around since the late 1800s. For those youngsters who don't know it, it was supposed to start off ''Send reinforcements, we are going to advance''.

Bumped into a colleague so had coffee with them instead, plus a pastry, and put the world to rights.

Got up to almost 38 degrees C yesterday, but it is cooler today, and I have had more than an inch and a half of rain overnight.

Better top the van up tonight with re-cycled dinousaur juice. I have a Morrisons 10x points voucher, and seeing it probably needs over £100 of juice, and that's before this week's 'hinted' fuel rises.

It should last me as I have one 300 mile trip to do next week, and the van probably won't move much again for a few weeks. It's not moved in 10 days after the 1300 mile Scotland trip.

After checking out the bicycles,i noticed my inner tube repair kit has dried out,well it is a long time since i used it.So this afternoon a walk to Argos which is the closest today.even though i am not going riding for three weeks,they have the best deal,it comes with two 700 tubes,i want a kit that has glue most are self adhesive.call me old fashioned.

A very pleasant morning here, lots of sun and a fresh breeze keeping the temperatures to low teens. Enjoyed a three hour loop around the Pentlands this morning, lots of glorious autumnal colours.
