PS sh1p sometimes happens. Makes you stronger. Don't pack it in. I went into Manchester City centre tonight, quite enjoyed owning a whole lane as traffic doesn't move fast enough like in the urban streets (which is just outside the city as Manchester centre is small compared to London).

Get the bike checked, as has been pointed out, but don't let it put you off cycling.
Could have been worse & hopefully your not injured in any way.

Glad your ok, hopefully the bike will be back in working order soon.

When I was taught to drive many moons ago, I was told to pay virtually all my attention to the vehicle in front and not the vehicles on the roundabout. You only start looking right when at the front of the queue to join the roundabout, still looking forward to ensure the way was free of obstructions.

Looks like he made a simple mistake, hope you are okay.I know that roundabout although I don't use it very often.

Very worrying if not seeing a 6ft man stood in front of you with lights flashing etc is a simple mistake.

It wasn't malicious in the slightest but was incredibly stupid and would have been a lot worse had I not been able to just step out of my bike (Brompton's not having a crossbar).

Must admit I dont trust a car running up behind me after my near collision with the land rover in 2010 although that wasn't from the rear.I still don't know how he didn't see me but would guess his concentration was taken up elsewhere.

Looks like he made a simple mistake...

Please allow me to heartily disagree.

It's this 'simple mistake, could've happened to anyone' mentality that sees motorists acquitted of killing cyclists. It's time drivers were forced to face up to the reality that a 'simple mistake' at the wheel can cost someone else very dearly.

Well I never said it was good but I would guess it wasn't deliberate. We've all seen driving which is downright dangerous. There are a lot of buffoons driving out there because it seems the driving test isn't up to much or at least they forget after passing the test.Either that or they couldn't care less, towards cyclists.<---that's got to be a very small minority though.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
I think it shows that no matter how visible you think you make yourself, someone, somewhere will be so pre occupied or just spaced out that they will not see you. When you are driving you always have to try and judge what the idiots around are going to do.

You have to think that everyone else is an idiot and is bound to do something stupid. It isn't easy and it can be quite frustrating especially if and when others feel that they are in the right when things go wrong.

We are never going to be able to stop or prevent these things from happening and there and there are no easy answers or quick solutions. I do hope this does not put you off of continuing to cycle however. Good luck

He said he was looking for traffic coming from the right, it was busy (as you can see), but the thing is he did this from a stopped position. In the video, you can see me pass him before getting to the roundabout, the traffic is moving very slowly and then we stop. Take me out of the situation and he was still stopped a good 10 feet from the line so it's pretty bizarre that he decides to edge forward and not appreciate those 10 feet have an object (me) in them.

Here's one thing that now worries me, we are told as cyclists to keep a primary position in certain situations and this was one of them. The guy crushed my back end while I was stationary, what would happen if I was riding in primary at speed and some idiot 'doesn't see me' in front of him?

I know. I am sorry and there is no easy answer. It seems we are always going to be at the mercy of someone else. We will never be able to do the right thing.
