simple mistake?? if the cyclist has 700c wheels he could have easily been pushed into the path of the traffic!!

Oh ok.Motorists never make mistakes. It must have been deliberate.

The thing that stands out in that video for me is the police. It looked like they slowed down and checked out the situation but decided to drive on and ignore it.

I didn't even notice that until I looked at the footage, I was wondering whether to call the police on the scene but decided it wouldn't have helped - but if I'd have noticed them there, I would have definitely tried to get them to come over.

One wonders if a cyclist stood in front of a car in the middle of a road blocking traffic going on to a roundabout doesn't warrant some kind of curiosity and intervention from the police, what would?

The bike is going to cost £234.75 to repair and I'm not gonna get it back until early next week so I'm going to ask the guy to cover my additional travel expenses this week too, that's fair enough isn't it?

I Googled the guys' name and it turns out he's quite high up in the Home Office, I won't say his name as that wouldn't be right and even though he seems like a bit of a Tory boy, I feel reassured that he's going to do the right thing.

Bloom in' heck, that's steep. I'd say it was fair enough to ask for the expenses too. Good luck.

I didn't think it'd be cheap but I think the bike shop is being fair:

Rear Sub Frame £131.00
Rear Mudguard £12.50
Rear Hinge Bushing Kit £16.25
Labour £75.00
Total £234.75

If you get the faintest whiff of a hint of an insinuation that he's going to mess you about go straight to Private Eye.

To be honest, if he plays funny buggers, I'll just file an official police report and he'll end up paying my costs plus a fine and court expenses and a few points. I already have a CAD reference from the police so if I need to progress it, that'll be fine.

He's said he's going to speak to his insurance company as the cost is 'considerably more than I anticipated', bit naive of him I think but I don't care as long as he coughs up.

He should have told them anyway, usually not til renewal. But why discuss anything, either he pays up or he claims on his insurance, the size of the sum shouldn't make him dither?

I agree he's naive, unless your travel expenses are going to add hundreds.

Nothing to stop you claiming direct from his insurers, although it looks like he's going to pay after a bit of chuntering.

Travel expenses won't be more than £28 for 7 or 8 working days. But yeh, Brompton's are expensive anyway and he rear-ended me so it was never going to be cheap.

Agreed, although I thought a new rear triangle might have been a shilling or two more than £131.

Been keeping an eye on the thread.
I hope getting your costs back are going to be hassle free.

I would have to agree with others in that he was a bit naive about the costs, but then quite a few motorists seem to be, as its "only a bike"...

Let us all know when its sorted and been out on its first run

Thanks Frood, when he said 'if it costs about £100, I can transfer you the money directly', I raised an eyebrow and thought '£100? Really?'...

Anyway, he's talking to his insurance company today. I was thinking though, I spoke to the police on 101 about an hour after the collision and was given a CAD number, but maybe I should complete a Form 206 as well? If he has to go the insurance route, I'm not sure if the CAD number will suffice.

I might pop along to Saville Row nick in a minute to ask...
