...... but I know why. I am down by 1 mph average from last year but I am not really concerned about it because I have changed my goals.
1. I drive a lower gear which tires me less.
2. I look around me more instead of head down.
3. Mileage is more important than speed.
4. I am also 1 year older.
Because of all this, I get more enjoyment from my cycling and notice more things on my travels.

Average speed is not something that's bothered me too much. My commute has 40 sets of lights and gawd knows how many junctions, roundabouts etc. there is no point taking any notice of my averages.

I'm definite getting faster. That's down to me getting fitter. I got up a hill today that last year would've been crippling and two years ago would've been impossible. Riding fixed gear at weekends seems to have helped a bit too.

Number 4 is a worry - depending on your current age and current average speed you could be averaging zero mph in the not too distant future.

I aim to keep mine above 10.0, but I cycle a MTB in the city. I can only dream of the 25mph average speed that some of you guys/girls can do.

Yebbut noticing more things results in more stops and a need for bigger panniers for getting these things home which results in a heavier bike and lower speed and so the downward spiral becomes more like a playground chute:sad:

My average has been the same for around 15 years since i first started recording it. If it dropped dramatically i'd be a bit concerned but it's the distance that counts not how long it takes to achieve that distance.

My speed is down at the moment as all the bridleways are accessible, the rain having mostly departed. Hooray for slower speeds!
