Waterloo Mills on the Huddersfield Broad, in Huddersfield.

As good a place as any: the two barges that were nearly washed away in the breach on the Llangollen Canal have both now being recovered. There's some good videos online about the operation.

Linear on a bench at the basin at Ellesmere, Salop. This small country town once had big ambitions, linking by canal to the Mersey at where Ellesmere Port is now. Ellesmere Port is now immense while Ellesmere itself remains a small country town. Such were the fortunes of industrial Britain at the time of the Canal Mania.

In Ellesmere tunnel on the way home from that trip. Unusually, this tunnel has a towpath through it, saving the boatmen from having to take the horses over the hill, and having to balance on a plank and "leg" the boat through with their feet on the tunnel sides.

I was having a rummage through my photos and have gotten all the pictures over the last 15 years or so I have that qualify, I've got a lot that don't as well!

Rather than drop them all, I'll group them up a little:

Rochdale Canal
One of my favourite canals to ride, its pretty much good to ride all year round now thanks to various parts of the towpath being improved. Its one of the prettiest canals as starting in Manchester you get lots of industrial heritage, which opens out into beautiful countryside before being swallowed by the Calder Valley.

This is one of the overflow drains, an unnusual design I've only seen on one other canal - best to get off and push when in water as can be very slippy!
