My cleat wouldn't click in

I was out for a ride yesterday miles away from home(Settle North Yorkshire ) when my right foot wouldn't click in to my pedal. No matter how i tried it would not work. When i got home after many miles of my shoe slipping off the pedal; i took it off and examined it. I could see no fault when i compared it to the left cleat. It can't be a faulty pedal as both sides wouldn't stop working, i thought. I found the spare cleats that came with the shoes and fitted one. It went in perfectly, so why wouldn't the one that was already on my shoe click in?


The cleats are Shimano SM-SH51 by the way.

I couldn't see any wear and i checked it for dried mud etc. If i posted a pic' it wouldn't help much as there's nothing unusual to see. It made a squeaking noise as i tried to force it in but nothing else.

Thing is with metal SPD is they don't look worn. My usual trick is for them to come unclipped accelerating on my fixed. One legged riding is quite entertaining for everyone else.

Change them.

Before i found the spare cleat i tried my now spare 16 year old shoes to see if they clicked in the same pedals. Both did perfectly, and that's after around 20,000 miles with the same cleats.

By the way, the part of the bike that attaches to the cleat on your shoe is a pedal. Peddle is a verb meaning to sell dodgy goods.

You have to accept that some things in life are way to complicated to understand, a cleat that will not clip in is one of them.

It sounds like mice infestation. My advice is to buy a cat

While we are on the subject, please, EVERYBODY, note that the expression "peddle" means: to sell goods from place to place, or, to sell illegal drugs. The correct word is : a pedal and the verb is: to pedal and pedalling.
